    Download CCLEANER

Run the CLEANER scan (UNTICK 'cookies')
Then run the REGISTRY scan (Backup the registry when it asks)

When I run the scan, should I tick all the things that aren't ticked and just leave cookies unticked i.e. should I tick DNS cache, old prefetch data etc? :)

    Okay. Thanks. :)

I thought so but just wanted to check.

    Just done it. :)

I also tried to do the system file checker on the other program you instructed me to download but it says to fix the DLLs I need the Windows XP disk which I don't have.

Well if the problem still persists (Which I assume it does) then your probably going to have to use the 'restore disc' which 'should' have come with the computer (Im not too sure about Acers though, but there should be some way of restoring back to how it was on the 1st day you powered it up)

Does this only happen when using firefox, and does the text vanish from all applications or just firefox. Have you changed any ATI control panel settings, and do you have plenty of ram?

Before I had the orignal harddrive changed, I had a recovery partition on it which was a godsend. Then my harddrive failed so I had to have a new one installed so now I don't have it. I'm sure I have my recovery disks I made somewhere so I'll try and look for them.

It happens with msn too. I think all the problems may be connected somehow as I only start getting application errors when the text starts to disappear etc.

I haven't changed any settings but I'll check just to make sure. :)

I have 1gb ram, running Windows XP.

One thing I've noticed is that all these problems only occur when my laptop has been left for a while and then I come back to it i.e.leave my laptop on whilst I go out for a few hours and then come back to it.

Not sure if that helps but just thought I'd update.
