Argh! Laptop Issues.

Heya all.

I'm having a few issues with my laptop so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Over the past month, my laptop has started doing weird things. It's hard to explain but the text on tabs and windows keeps disappearing? And then only appearing if I highlight it. Sometimes this doesn't work though or the text flickers.

I use Firefox and sometimes this issue causes it not to respond so I do ctrl-alt-del to kill the process but it comes up with an error saying that the application failed to initialize properly.

I tried to do a print screen and copy the image into paint as the text disappearing was happening, so that it could be easily seen, but when I attempted to paste it, nothing was on the clipboard, even though I had done it properly.

Also, I'm trying to uninstall AVG (I've decided to use Avast) and when attempting to uninstall, it fails with an error saying it was unable to create a registry key.

I've ran Malware Bytes, Superantispyware and Avast and they have all been clean.
I've also ran Ccleaner to clear out temp files etc.

This only started happening about a month ago and I can't pinpoint why. I haven't installed anything that could be causing it, which leads me to believe it could be a hardware issue and it only happens when my laptop has been running for a while.

The laptop is an Acer Aspire 5100, if that helps.

Please help.:o

It may be worth trying to update the video drivers to see if that helps.

If you are having problems uninstalling AVG then download their AVG Remover which should get rid of it.
  • Try davbs' suggestion first, if it re-occurs do you have a monitor you could use, temporarily, to see if is the screen, it will help eliminate potential problems

    I do.

They're happening as I speak. I just tried to printscreen again into Paint and I receved an application error but I couldn't read the error as the writing was missing again. :(

Please excuse any spelling errors. I'm literally writing without being able to see what's on the screen at the moment. All that's happening is the cursor is moving without me being able to see what I'm typing. :(
