Urgent Netgear Router Problems

I'm in need of urgent help !!

During the process of trying to make a squeezebox connect to the internet via my wireless router without the need to leave my pc on I've managed to uncheck the DHCP section in the settings. Now i can't connect to the internet via the router (wired or wireless) and i can only connect via ethernet direct to my laptop from the virgin modem. Whenever i try connect to the router with an ethernet cable or wireless i get no joy. How can i connect to my router long enough to recheck the unchecked items & hopefully get everything up and running.

Laptop is XP, router is Netgear Rangemax WPN824, broadband is virgin.

Need help urgently as I work from home & need internet access for e-mail etc.

Thanks, Jac.

  • OK ... so far ... managed to get into the reset router settings and they all appear to be back to their defaults. Problem is I still can't access the internet via the router (wired or wireless). The DHCP area in the settings is back to automatic selection and I was really hoping that everything else would go back to normal ! On the front of the router the internet light is amber instead of its usual green. If I can't get this router talking to everything else I may have to trade the squeezebox (paperweight !!) in for a new router but I don't want to buy a new router if it's simply being ignored by the pc etc.

Been at this on & off most of today so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Jac.

Have you rebooted everything? i.e.turn PC etc off, leave for a minute then turn it all back on, starting from the Virgin modem.
    Move along, nothing to see.

If you've reset to factory settings, you'll probably need to re-enter your broadband user name and password in order to connect to the net again...it'll be in the netgear interface somewhere....
    ......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

OP is on VM cable, so no need to enter anything anywhere.

  • Turned everything off and then started everthing back up again in the right order but still no joy (have had to do this a few times today!) and I don't recall seeing anywhere to add in my broadband user name or password.

Before I cocked everything up if I had to connect a new wireless device to the router I had to enter a wireless passphrase but I don't see that option either ?

If you've reset the router it will probably have defaulted to the SSID 'NETGEAR' with security off so you should be able to connect wirelessly (View Wireless Networks).
Alternatively connect your PC to the router using an ethernet cable then -
Type http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar of your browser.
    At the pop-up -
    User Name = admin
    Password = password
You can then enable WPA security with a passphrase of your choosing.
  • i've reapplied my WPA security & passphrase and the router is displaying more of my wireless devices now (including the bloody squeezbox that started this marathon!!) I'm now trying to connect the laptop to the wireless network but windows says it can't configure the wireless network ?
