Chances of acceptance for iPhone?
Just a quick ask. If I were to walk into an O2 or Orange shop on my 18th birthday (no credit history or anything, obviously) what would the chances of being accepted for an iPhone contract be? I really want an iPhone and can afford the contract, but I would hate to walk out of the shop embarrassed.

Are you on the electoral roll? Do you have a job, got a debit card?0

I have been entered onto the roll for the next update (sent the form off around a month ago). I'm a student, no job but have enough in the bank to fund the duration of the contract. Have a Debit card from my bank account. Are you on the electoral roll? Do you have a job, got credit/debit cards?0 -
Not sure if they would accept you, without any form of regular income but on the plus side you are on the electoral roll. Orange would probably be more likely to accept than O2 from what I've heard.0

You've got just as much chance of being accepted for an iPhone as you have for any other contract, I got a contract when I was 18 without any problems, if you're worried why not just apply for one online0

Even when you apply online a credit check is done against your name. if you have just been put on the electoral roll you should be on the roll around next February - March. If you dont have regular money coming into your account or dont have a job I would avoid trying to get a contract as this would leave a footmark on your credit history which would stay on there for around 6 months. i would wait or get the contract maybe in your dad or mums name and change the bill to your name0 -
If you've got enough money in your account for the whole contract (35*18), then you have enough to be able to buy the phone on PAYG.... Why not do that...

I realise a credit check would still be done if applying online, however it would avoid the embarressment of being turned down in a shop.0

There are a few people on here (MSE) who have been accepted for an iPhone, who are students, on O2.
I wouldn't get concerned with employment details either O2 (on-line), don't ask for any.
Well they never did when I was accepted back in September.0 -
Thanks very much for the replies, appreciate the advice. I think I'll go via the online route when the time comes (got over a month yet!) but I'll definitely be going for one. Not too bothered about waiting for the 4G, as there'll most likely be an endless waiting loop to get hold of one a la the 3G.
Re PAYG. I would be interested in this option if I got more mins and texts. I've looked into the simplicity deal but I'm concerned about any possible data limit and the lack of hotspot use.0 -
O2 tend to charge a bond of around £100 if your credit rating is not steady.0
