Anyone accept international bank transfers ?

I have sold something on Ebay, and stated clearly that I accept overseas payment by cash ( sent recorded) or Paypal. I have now received a note from the buyer asking for my name & address, and BIC and
IBAN code for international payment via bank.
Does anyone accept this form of payment, and is it safe ?

I personally wouldn't. The fees for this from the UK banks can be horrendous, but a lot of European Ebayers don't realise this because it's much cheaper for them.
I'd go back and repeat the terms of the auction to the buyer. You're under no obligation to change the terms to suit them, particularly if it means more inconvenience for you.The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0 -
I always accept transfers, fees for me (natwest) were usually a quid or so
never had a problem till last month, some guy from the netherlands transferred £30 quid or so to me
he got charged 5 euros, AND the bank of england took a £7 cut :-(
turned out that there's a box to share fees with receipient or something like that
anyway, it wasn't my fault so i made the buyer cough up the extra dough :-)money saving my @rse.
I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)

Yes, I accept payments from overseas. Just speak to your bank and tell them that you want to accept a payment from overseas. They will then give you the details that you need to forward to the person wantinf to make the payment. The BIC and IBAN codes have the bank name and branch details in and the other details are obviously your account details. Rememer to tell them that you do not want to share the costs, unless you agree to this. Once the money is in your bank then you can send the items out. This method of payment is used alot in europe, and the time for funds to appear in your account can vary as the it costs more to have the funds transfered the same or next day as it does for it to take a week or so. I also use this method to pay for goods from europe.0

There seems to be another issue with intermediary banks taking a cut. We regularly find our payments are several pounds short because of this and our bank blames banks which handle the money along the way. This can happen even when the person paying has paid the whole fee asked for by their bank. It's not too much of a problem if the payment is a large amount but it can make a huge difference for small amounts (under £50 or so).
Often people are not so keen to pay by credit transfer when they find out what the fee is for payments to the UK . When people in the Euro zone transfer money to other countries which use Euros, banks are not allowed to charge any more than they would make people pay to transfer to another account in their own country. Hence the popularity of bank transfers across Europe.0 -

Hi, I know it's going off the question a bit but accepting payment by cash (sent recorded or otherwise) is against ebay rules and policy. I got a listing removed by Ebay for saying I'd accept cash sent recorded as payment.

Just make doubly sure that the cash is in your account and fully cleared before you send the item.0

Just make sure theyre aware they need to pay all fees, which isint cheap (10 euros seems to be the norm at work when travelex forgets to do it).0

I didn't realise that it is against Ebay rules to accept cash sent recorded - I don't suppose this could be because they are trying to force us to use Paypal

As long as the sender specifies 'shared fees', the fees are nominal - only a token amount for conversion.
They must make the transfer in EUROS.
The supposed logic is, no fees on transfers are allowed between banks within the EU. One or two have possible found a way around that though! Check with your own bank.My TV is broken!
