Cancellation of a T-Mobile mobile phone contract

Ordered a phone from a retailer in September
Phone launch is delayed and my Nokia N900 arrives last Tuesday not working.
The phone is on T-Mobile and according to their website, the reception where I live EX15 1XD should be fine on 2G. The phone arrives and within my house the reception is poor to non-existant and very average outside.
As the phone is not working on arrival and I have very poor reception, despite being told it should be fine where do I stand in cancelling the contract (and getting my ported number back to another provider?)
Thanks
John
Good Afternoon grecianite,
With Mobile Phones Direct you have 7 days from receipt of the handset to return it and arrange cancellation. Before sending the handset back they do ask that you call 0845 470 4000 for a returns reference number.
I've checked the postcode you supplied and you do have full coverage in that area. If there is anything else I can help with please feel free to email me from our Contact Us page making sure to include WRT135 in the subject field. Also include your username and a link to this thread.
Best Wishes,
Kay
