It's a bit pathetic. A person of your mature years, asking complete strangers what car you should buy. You will probably get as many different suggestions as you get replies. Apart from me that is, of course.
Its about time that you realised that there is no such thing as a perfect car. Or if there is, the choice is as varied as the number of cars that are available. Think it out for yourself as to what you want.
Sounds to me as if you are looking for a car for posing purposes, but no doubt you will tell us if you are not.I can afford anything that I want.

thank you for your kind and detailed opinion on the subject... as per the previous poster I was looking for suggestions for cars that i may not have thought about. many of the trade magazines are sponsered and it is a true petrolhead that can offer a true opinion. I would love to know your choice as I would avoid like the plague a troll car.
As far as posing you could not be further from the truth but i would not want to bore you with the facts...0 -

i really don't see the need for this type of response! The OP asked a genuine question, requesting genuine advice, the same as many other posters.
Darvik, i hope you find a car to suit your needs, another suggestion i forgot would be a volvo C30, if your after a auto box tho i'd recommend a german hatch/saloon

I still think that it is pathetic even to ask the question. Much the same as posters on other forums asking what colour they should paint their kitchen. Why should anyone's idea of what constitutes a perfect car, be the same as that of anyone else. Everybody has different requirements, criteria and financial situations. I hope that you find something to suit yourselfI can afford anything that I want.

Mmmm, OK if you think you have time in your life for track days with your car £25K should get you and end of the line E46 BMW M3 i.e. not the current shape. You can get the best part of 30mpg out of them but if you drive it "properly" it will be under 25mpg. "Properly" means not breaking speed limits but getting to the limit very quickly

Pointless car if your not going to take it on the track, you'll never be able to get near what it's capable on the public road so not worth paying out for. Check up on service costs, this one has a fairly regular £700 bill that some London dealers will charge £1200 for.
If track days are not an option I'd still go with rear wheel drive fun with a £25K 125i coupe which should be easy to find as an auto. The 135i is M3 performance and again you need access to a track to get use out of it.0 -
M3s are nice, but they are a bit common, and 'chav' imo.
£25k will get something really nice that will stand out from the crowd. After all, in mid life crisis you'll want to stand out, you have no chance of that in a ford, seat or bmw.
A few I would look at:
Alfa Romeo brera / spider
Aston Martin DB7
Corvette
Honda NSX / 2000
Noble M12
TVR (plenty of models in that price. Tuscan, mmmmm)0 -
Mazda RX-8?0
