    Hi
When Windows was first installed on your computer it was probably done from a CD.
But some computers don't use this method, they put it in a backup partition instead.
So, when Windows was installed on your computer, which method did you use?

    Ok
You might have to see about buying or borrowing a Windows CD, unless somebody else here has a better idea.

What do I mean? Well, you say you have no recovery disks. Sometimes the manufacturer provides a recovery method on the HDD partition (press F8 or F10 or other on bootup) meaning you will not require the disks.
Often dependent on manufacturer but press F8 or F10 or sometimes Alt+F10 to revert to the factory-default Windows XP image stored on the “hidden partition” - you should be able to see what key(s) to press on boot-up.

if it happened 2 months ago I suspect theres a problem with the hard disk, seen this happen before until it fails totally

I think your Hard drive is going bad-the best way to spend the new HD
(hard drive now is very cheap). just add in as the second drive clone image
from orginal HD (restore image backup from original HD if there is one) or if you don't have any restore image you have to reload windows.
Or use any third part disk partition utility, like partition magic, acronis true image...etc. use others make the boot cd and use it to boot your pc up. then do
    copy partition or clone HD

Diagnosing a faulty hard disk is jumping the gun a little.

Press F8 when windows is starting, you should get a menu, try safe mode.

If it still blue screens, see if you can take a photo/video, and post the text.

A longshot, but remove all usb devices, other than mouse and keyboard, turn off at wall, trace the ribbon cable going from DVD drive to motherboard, and pull it out of motherboard, trace the same cable going from hard disk to motherboard, pull it out from motherboard, then put the cable into the motherboard where the CD was plugged in previously, switch on, see what happens - be careful not to force it, and bend any pins.

If this was a self build, it is highly unlikely that there is a restore partition, if the above doesn't work, you'll have to borrow a windows CD from someone.

  • It would still be a good idea to see if you can run some startup tests in the bios and check the HDD, also borrow a windows CD and boot into it and look at seeing if you can use the Windows repair option.

Let us know how you get on as it is probable that it is a memory or HDD issue rather than software if it has happened for a second time in two months.
