Recycle for cash.

If you want to make some money, and have a large shed or garage spare, then why not sort, crush & bag your cans.
Just remember to keep Aluminium and steel can seperate.
When you have a few bags, take them to your nearest scrapmetal dealer who will give you cash for them.

I also add electrical flex from old appliances to the pile as most scrappies only reduce the paid-for price for copper by 15% if it is still coated in rubber.

If you have access to a van, then even better, you can take more down at a time. Since I started, I've found that a few friends are more than willing to add thier cans to my pile (and I didn't even ask them).

Don't forget that tinfoil can also go as aluminium.

Haven't found a buyer in Essex for glass yet, but there is always hope.

I think it is a fabulous idea and will be trying it. How much do they pay say, per can.

    Good question.
When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.
  • I collect a load of white goods, and have an old lock up to store the stuff in.

I get about 3 white goods items per week. How much would I get for that kinda stuff?

  • How much would you get for something like that?
    DFW:
    Virgin CC: £2074 - 01.01.13
    Halifax CC: £1850 - 01.01.13
    Overdraft: £800 - 01.01.13
What do we say to the god of death?
    Not today!

It all depends on weight. Steel is currently at £120/Tonne, Aluminium £500/Tonne.
As for white goods, it is always worth noting that scrap dealers WILL NOT take fridges/freezers that have not been de-gassed (remember, it is an offence to simpley cut the pipes, but if you can seal them by crimping them flat you can then remove the pump/reservoir assembley). As for washing machines and tumble dryers, you will get more if you remove the stainless steel drum as this is worth about £12 on its own, but you will only get about £6.00 for the machine as a whole, even with drum still in place.

At the end of the day, the cash you get depends on the price per tonne at the time you arrive on the wieghbridge.
