Cancelling Endsleigh Car Insurance Arrrrgggghhh

Hello I am looking for a bit of advice as to the way forward on this
I scrapped my old car and therefore need to cancel my insurance with Ensleigh
Originally I was quoted £40 to cancel however due to my Abbey card having expired (they failed to send me another one, grrr another story) I couldnt pay at that point.
So a week later (on Wednesday infact) I called to cancel I was told it was £119 and that includes an admin fee, I questioned this figure and she gave me the breakdown however I was dubious due to the difference compared to the first fee, so thought I would test it out and call again..maybe a bad decision as...
Today (saturday) I have called to get it cancelled and the lady informs me the fee to cancel will be £294!!! Apparently no breakdown is available, I could not speak to anyone as I needed to speak to credit control who do not work at a weekend:mad:
Does anyone have any idea what is going on here? Are they trying to scam me?
My monthly premiums are £53 so I am never going to pay the £294.Can anyone give any advice of what my plan of action should be on Monday, I can feel I am going to end up very angry on the phone, deep breaths
Any help would be much appreciated I can check answers up until 3pm

It is normal for monthly premiums to have to pay more on cancellation as the direct debit payment schedule is rarely in sync with the amount you owe.
Also, when you cancel, the calculation is not going to be pro rata. For example, if you cancel mid year you would not get a 50% refund (or in case of monthly, not calculated to 50%). It would often be 30-40%.
Its possible that that you have moved from one refund period to the next (e.g. 40% to 20%). They will be able to confirm this but as its Saturday they may not be able to get the breakdown as many systems are not available at the weekend.
Ask them, on Monday, to give the breakdown. Can you also let us know how far into the policy year you are.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Hi there
Send endsleigh a letter with your certificate of insurance. Advise them of the exact date you disposed of the car and ask them to send you details of any premium due, including a full breakdown of how they have calculated it, and you will review their figures.
Endsleigh will not send you this before Christmas (or are unlikely to), so that gives you a little more time to get the money together. It also gets you the breakdown you wanted.
If you do not get the breakdown of the premium, you simply write back to them and ask for that again. Eventually, you will get someone who knows their !!! from their elbow and you will be given the information.
Sorry Dunstonh - was writing at the same time as you!!In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -
