Are there going to be any flight sales in January?

Hi,

Popping off to Hong Kong in February and looking to book my flight, I'm a bit of a skint student and Christmas gifts also need to be bought so .

Best I can find is £345 at the moment which is in all honestly pretty damn cheap but I can't really be spending money.

I remember buying cheap flights in a January sale (same location and time) a few years back. Does this happen every year? Obviously even if there is a sale nothings guaranteed but would be nice.

OP is skint and wants to go to Hong Kong - what bit am I not understanding?

As for "will there be a sale in January" - how on earth would we know. If I could predict the future I'd be making money on the gee-gees

Right, so OP posts a thread asking for help and someone who can't help him first questions his destination (It's my best friends wedding, thanks for asking) then mockingly says no one knows the future - which bit am I not understanding?

I, for example, know ebuyer.com always have a boxing day sale... do I "predict the future" christ lol!!

I don't know whether or not there will be sales either. But the point is this: even if we knew for definite that there would be sales we couldn't possibly predict what effect that will have on a particular flight on the dates you want to travel.

£345 is a good price. If I was in your position I would be booking now.

You don't say who you are flying with, but if it's a decent airline I'd bite their arm off...after all, after taxes, the airline is probably only getting 200 quid, so 100 pounds each way is pretty cheap.

On the other hand, if the fare is with Air North Korea or similar, and you're asking if you'll be able to get a similar price with BA/Virgin/Cathay in the sales, then yes I'd wait for the January sales. I know nothing is certain in this world, but I can't remember a January without a sale.

One word of warning - the cheap fares are often APEX fares which must be purchased 56 / 28 days in advance; if you are leaving early Feb, you may not be able to get the cheapest sale fares.

    Cheers and good luck

Staff would never be allowed to confirm about when sales start as it would harm their revenue management. I don't know why people continually ask when sales will start as no-one ever knows.

I've never known BA not to have a January sale. The sale fares usually start appearing on the BA website just before christmas.

Yes I'm aware no one can predict any particular flight, kinda why I said "Obviously even if there is a sale nothings guaranteed" nevermind!

Yes it's looking that way I might have to book pretty soonish.
