    Problems lie ahead..

To take on line rentals the company must have in-depth knowledge of problem troubleshooting - etc...
They become first line of defence for BT.
If the company [eg PO] can't sort out problem then they refer you to BT.

advantages to taking on line rental are:
    1. can 'cut-off' poor/slow payer [whereas if you currently do not pay another alternative carrier who dont insist on d/d or cr/cd details-they can cease youi from their service but you can simply return to BT or join another co..]
    2. one-bill solution for calls/rental etc..-
    3. greater retention & control of client - leading to reduced churn

    disadvantages:
    1. you become BT's bankers....you may have to wait for clients' payments but BT insist on rental money on the dot!
    2. retraining of staff -- v.difficult..even BT can't do that properly after years...
    3. investment in greater staffing numbers or outsourcing to overseas call centres
    something missing

You require a bt line to access most ADSL services unless the other phone networks offer it. AFAIK Royal mail dont offer Broadband, but even if they did, your restricted to using it instead of the vast choice with bt. As for phone calls, voip is about as cheap as you can get. especially if you dont call much, no line rental and cheap calls! and if your quick enough (like me) you get a great number (01721 788000) and as voip can offer numbers for almost every exchange in the uk there is even more reason to signup. its not like a year or so ago when you had to use one of those 0870 numbers.

VOIP is avaliable with no line rental from https://www.sipgate.co.uk

I know ive gone off the origonal subject but i thought this was still quite important.

    Thanks

Why have the PO pitched their line rental the same as BT?, if the PO are serious about their phone service they've missed a trick.

    yes! makes you wonder?
i would like to find rental for less.
