looks a good price, the 2 months free makes up for the initial £35 outlay. What do others think?

A friend has Wanadoo seems quite happy with it. Things may change when they start capping youre bandwidth. Seems like a good offer this one. The problem for most people is you get tied to a package for a year when you sign up. If its only 2GB bandwidth this would be no use if you use any file sharing programs

This offer from maplin doesn't give you any extra benefit from wanadoo themself. Wanadoo offer free modem and connection anyway. I have been with them for 6 months now and have no problem with their service and there has been no capping either (they haven't put in a system to monitor bandwidth limit). When my 12months up i'll be looking for a better deal elsewhere.

I got the £17.99 deal in June and no tracking so far.

Does anyone know when they will introduce the capping? (hopefully not)

Also I am on 512k and i can get 1 meg now but they wanted £20 admin fee. Is it worth upgrading/paying the fee against the capping?

I also heard Tiscali are doing the 512 - 1mg upgrade FREE - anyone got the wanadoo one FREE ?

It's only worth it if you download much stuff from the net like music or watch live streams etc.Cable will be offereing free upgrades soon too so it looks like a pricewar is about to start between providers which is only good news so be careful about signing yourself into 12 month contracts to quickly :):)

Out of interest, as the Maplins Ad doesn't say anything about a cap, what would be my legal status if I insisted on if for £17.99 pcm?

please note that it is a capped adsl boradband packages. according to them, it vary from 2GB to 30GB per month download, depending on package.

With regards to download limits, does anyone know of any software package (preferably FREE) that you can put on your PC to find out what sort of capacity you might actually be using over a day, a week or a month ?

Something that collects statistics on Internet transmit and receive bytes and/or packets etc...

I'm currently on 56k dial-up, probably have it connected for 10 to 12 hours a day, almost everyday.
I presume I do not exceed 1GB per month but it would be nice to know

My dial-up networking monitor has these statistics but only for each 2 hour session, resetting on each subsequent re-dial.
I've often wondered how much I would need if I subscribed to a capped service.

If my maths are correct 1GB per month is approximately 33Mb per day

    1Gb = 1000Mb
    30 days at 33Mb = 999Mb

Just casual Internet browsing seems to require at least 1Mb to 2 Mb per hour.

I've frequently seen these byte counts reach 6 or 7 Mb within a 2 hour session and that is without any specifically large or planned downloads.

Now I know that I am not getting or using 56k all of the time (I usually connect at 50.2k) but even if I only use 10% of it, that is 5k per second.
That equates to 300k per minute or 18Mbytes per hour.
    5 hours worth could be 90Mb !!!!!!!!

    CRIKEY !!

Even at 2.5K per second that's the best part of 50 Mb over a 5 to 6 hour period.

On a 10 to 12 hour connected day that could be 100Mb which equals 3Gigabytes a month !!

    OOOOPS!

Looks like I need to check!
Internet Statistics Collecting Software Package anyone ???
