I have a quick question i need help with.
I have virgin broadband at home and it is currently set up so that i have the modem i purchased from them which then plugs into a router i purchased from them which is then connected to the pc via a ethernet cable. My router has broken and im wondering as i dont use the router as a modem - can i just buy a cheap adsl router to replace the one i have and will it work or do i need to buy a virgin router.
Thanks

You don't need to use a Virgin router but you must make sure you get a router compatible with cable - i.e. a dsl router and not an adsl router.
I use this one.

I've also had D-Link routers which have worked well. Netgear routers have not worked for me, including the one Virgin supplied. The Virgin one kept dropping the connection all the time, another netgear that I had lost the wireless connection frequently and had to be rebooted.
The Linksys one I have linked to above works perfectly.0 -
