Christmas day off - refused

Hi, I was wondering if any one could help. My girlfriend has worked the last 3 or so years on christmas day and boxing day and she asked for it off this year, which they said they would give her. However she did not get this in writting and does not have any days available to take it off as holiday.
It has really upset her because we was going to spend christmas together as it would be our first one but now im left at her parents without her for the majority of the day.
I was just wondering is there any way this can be turned around.... (she has worked at the employment 5 years)
Thank you

Christmas day off is not a right unfortunately. If she hasn't got it writing I don't know what she can do.
I would suggest for next year she applies using the correct holiday booking procedure and confirms it in writing, also stating that she will have worked 4 out the last 5 Christmases.
What line of work is she in?Don't look at me, I'm irrelevant.0 -

If she wanted time off at Christmas, then why didn't she save some days leave for this?0

I think I'd be discovering religion. Christmas is the biggest day in the Christian calendar. Its against your human rights to stop you practising your religion.....0

She was made fill in holiday form when she wanted a day or two off together, and the manager always insisted that she fill in form for holiday even if it was she needed a day off because they constantly put her to work 8-10 days in a row. So that is why she does not have any days off, she is looking for a new job.Audi - Vorsprung durch Technik

Why didn't she save a day's holiday for it then? She doesn't have any right to take it in addition to paid holiday!Hi, I was wondering if any one could help. It sounds like she's working a lot of hours - what I suggest is looking back over the past 3 months and averaging out how many working hours she has worked in that time. If over 48 hours per week, and if she hasn't signed any sort of opt-out, then they would be in trouble in respect of the working time directive. She might be able to get them over a barrel with this and make them give her Christmas!
Has she been paid full pay for all the "holiday" days she has taken so far?0 -
easily sorted...take a sickie

...Apart from the fact it is a public holiday.
I rather expect her contract makes provision for these. At the very least she should get a day back in leiuGo round the green binbags. Turn right at the mouldy George Elliot, forward, forward, and turn left....at the dead badger0
