Tesco sim in a phone locked to O2, nokia 5530
Hi hoping I can get some help, looking to get a new phone for christmas which is new territory for me, I've had a motorola v3 for 3 years and after loads of abuse its finally given up.
I'm currently on tesco and would like to stay with them and was looking at getting the Nokia 5530 preferably for the £99.95.

But I have some questions hopefully someone can answer, even better if I can get a definitive answer for this exact model.
Firstly will Tesco mobile sims work directly on phones locked to O2 PAYG?
Or does anyone know if this model will be locked to O2 or not.
I was also wondering if when I buy it with £10 top-up that will be directly loaded on to the sim, or will it be given as a top-up card which I can pass on to my sister?
Finally I had a friend who recently bought a new phone and was told that her old sim would not work with some features on the new phone, is this likely to apply to me. I doubt it does but its something else I need to worry about.
Umm yeah, any other advice is appreciated as I say this is all new to me, and tbh, in most cases I liek gadgets but I'd of been more than happy to keep my old phone for a bit longer as its all a bit of a hassel.

Tesco Mobile is run by O2
I would say that it should probably work.
I am not sure about what Tesco enable on their PAYG sims, I know for instance, I bought parents Voda PAYG phones and I had to ring up on their behalf to have them 'data enabled' (i.e. picture messaging etc) as it's not standard on PAYG.
You could always give Tesco Mobile a ring???0 -
If it's PAYG and bought from CPW, then it will be unlocked.0

My son used to have an LG Viewty which was locked to O2 and he put a Tesco sim in with no problems.xxx Nikki xxx0

thanks, from the little I'd been able to find elsewhere, it seemed that all O2 contract phones were unlocked but PAYG was a bit more hit or miss.
But if it will work then thats great, hopefully I'll get a decent assistant when I go to The Carphone Warehouse, who will tell me for sure if its unlocked etc but I imagine that depends on whether I'm lucky or not.0 -
I have recently bought a 02 nokia 5530 from the carphone warehouse online (it is currently sitting in the loft awaiting santa to wrap it and deliver it to me!)
It was unlocked to all networks (tested my orange sim in it)
And the £10 airtime is preloaded onto the sim card as far as im aware, hope this helps.0 -
from the cfw needed it on Orange but wasn't available.Bought anyway but had to pay for a top up,which i'll use in an old phone.Anyhow put the Orange sim in and "Bob's your Aunties live in lover" it works no probs!0
