surely this is what has happened to everyone's account who are on this forum - so if HSBC can admit this was wrong they should refund everyone who has found themselves in the same situation - which is most of you!

Not everyone on this forum has 'overdaft issues'.

When HSBC say they ''got it wrong'' they are simply lying. Their terms & conditions and standard procedures provide for everything that happened in this instance. To infer that they made some kind of mistake is dishonesty unplugged.
  • From the article it looks like an error was made in this case. The account in question was obviously a 'community' account that had not been set up correctly when it was opened. These accounts should have a 'nil' limit in place to prevent them ever entering an informal overdraft of any sort and thus incur any charges on a business tariff.

The Riverside under 15s HSBC bank account went overdrawn after a £3 cheque was cashed. Can I clarify if you are saying that if a community account goes or get to the point it will go into minus figures that the bank will NOT honour payments but also NOT make a charge?

Several charges were then applied to the Long Eaton team's account which brought the deficit to £813.29.
HSBC said it had written off the debt after looking into the case and will apologise to the team.
Wrting in read cos my post includes a quote from BBC website but is that a change to the terms and conditions of this specific account?

  • But they still get hit with interest
Overdrafts agreed following an informal request
Debit balance is over existing formally arranged overdraft limit £4 per working day
Account is overdrawn with no formally arranged overdraft limit in place £8 per working day

  • I'd say they are one in the same to be honest ie in excess of a limit agreed. They either agreed to a limit and are in excess of it or agreed to have no limit and are in excess of that.
