BB - if you can afford the repayments on whatever you borrow for the car, then it's not the most dreadful thing in the world to have a small, manageable debt. Even Martin agrees there is good debt and bad debt. I think we terrify ourselves into wanting to be 100% debt free at all times on here, and whilst that is the ideal, of course, life doesn't always work like that and we have to be realistic.
As long as it is under control, affordable, and at the cheapest rate possible, then it's fine I think. I couldn't work without my car, so if I had to borrow to replace it, it would be a no-brainer. Better to have a small debt and a safe car than a £300 banger that might be dangerous."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -

thing is - even 3k doesn't get much (remembering I am only looking at automatics). I could batter the price of a 51 plate focus down to 3k at a push, there are some around 3,600. I just don't want to get into debt again just after getting out - again  It would feel like a millstone back around my neck and if my afternoon job doesn't continue (have been told I'm now ok to end of March) I'm back to where I was before August. My 2 jobs plus teaching are giving me approx £1200 after tax so leaving me around 100 a month to play with unless I do AQA on top.
It's just a bit of a precarious situation still to be going back into debt.
Sally - there are a couple of Rovers for around 1k-1.5k which are R/S/T reg, but my OH loves them so much  I just don't think I could have one :rotfl:
