ShowWnd.exe: trojan?

Hello,

Just wondering about this ShowWnd.exe thing, I was just having a look at my start up items as the pc is taking a wee while to start up, and looking up all the stuff. This was in there, and when I search I'm finding results that relate it to a back door trojan? On one site it said you shuold remove it from the start up list and check if it is running as a process, it isnt in the process list.

I'm not sur what to do now? I do regularly run virus checks/spyware checks in normal and safe mode and my pc has been fine? Can it be hiding somewhere?

I'm not brilliant on the pc but I'm getting better so simple soultions, thanks:o

Edit: right now I'm totally confused, as searches also show this as something to do with 'chicony keyboard software'?

Thinks it came with your keyboard driver.

Can't see it being a trojan horse.

Download this control Start Up Manager and disable it.

Or you can remove it in the registry via run > type in regedit, ok.

    Browse to key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Look for file and remove it.

I'm using mcaffe security suite by the way, just doing some online scans now, hoping it is just the keyboard thing.

Well if you use a software firewall you could also look in the section of which you gave permissions for things to connect to the internet.

If you allowed permissions and worried then disable it connecting to the net.

bleeping computer says this about Winpatrol

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/WinPatrol.exe-6730.html

This is a valid program, but it is up to you whether or not you want it to run on startup.

Whether or not you need to run this program on startup must be decided by you. If you feel that you want this program starting automatically so that you have it available as needed, then do not disable it. The following information is a brief description of what is known about this file

    Name:WinPatrol
    Filename:WinPatrol.exe
    Command:Unknown at this time.
Description:WinPatrol - "Manage Startup programs, tasks, cookies; will sniff out Worms, Trojan horses, Cookies, Adware, Spyware, Klez, Assumption and other malicious programs"
    File Location:Unknown
    Startup Type:Currently being identified

if you do not have Winpatrol on your PC then fix that as well
