I've spent £24.75 this morning on supplies. I aim to spend another £30-40 later. When I receive the goods, I aim to re-package and sell on eBay... each little collection will have cost me £2.36 to put together, and I will sell for £10.00 including P&P. very lightweight, I worked out the cost of a jiffy bag with postage will be under a pound, so I hope to make £6.64 each less eBay fees. I'll be able to make at least 20... so that's £132.80 return. There will be lots of "remnants" left over, with which I'll make up an alternative and sell for £5.00 each plus P&P. That'll be another £160.00,if they sell. So for £70ish pounds I'll get £292.80 back. Does that sound ok?

I'm also going to resurrect my blog and get selling on there. And I have had a root around at home and think I could raise probably £600 selling off unused craft stuff I've bought and never used! For example, I thought I'd like to take up drawing, so spent £70 on pencils - UNUSED!!! So they are going on eBay later.

To whoever it was talking about selling plants, I d've never done that, but I do know how easy it is to grow your own from seeds for hanging baskets... Lobelia are very easy. A packet of seeds is about £2.00 and you get at least 100 plants... you need trays but they are cheap enough.

£220 profit is a birilliant return, do that once a week, if they all sell you will have more than £10k. Sounds easy doesnt it?
Work in progress...Update coming July 2012.

Having trawled through some of the many pages on this thread, could I suggest to the OP that they add some of the best bits that others have had in terms of capital return to the original post.

This may save a large amount of time for others who are looking to capitalise on the time they have and convert this into £££'s.

This year, I set myself a traget to raise our Florida holiday money of £3k from things away from our salaries - achieved this via car boot sales, Quidco, betting, Ebay etc. I intend to do the same this year.

Keep your eye on the dollor, i went last year and the rate some people got was awful

I've just come back from Florida (4 weeks ago) thanks to car boots etc and clearing out the clutter, there is money to be made out there, I think I might try the plants this year at the car boot - I've got a few packets of seeds sround the house so will get my green fingers working.

I've not finished reading all the pages as I only discovered this challenge yesterday, but please count me in. I've never bought or sold on ebay, I usually ask my OH to get it if I need anything, so I need to get to grips with how to list things.
I do however go to car boot sales and have sold plants quite sucessfully.

Just looked out of the window. There's at least 7 guinea fowl and a four pheasants in the back, maybe I should look to saving money on the meat bill as well!!!
  • need abit of advice please.

Im thinking of investing in something. I gotta order it from China wholesale, and its a box LOT of 20 pieces.

This will cost me £387.86 delivered to my door. Now, this is just under £20 a piece. And looking on ebay the last few COMPLEATED LISTINGS were for:

    AUCTION:
    10 Bids Sold £45.00

    BUY IT NOW:
    £46.99
    £46.99
    £43.08 +£17.46 p&p
    £43.08 +£17.46 p&p
    £46.99

Now, there have been no more listings i can find on these... so surley this seems like a good bet...?... also.. current auctions are so far at:

    12 Bids £41.00 21m
    9 Bids £31.00 1d 10h 31m
    3 Bids £21.00 1d 23h 47m
    9 Bids £40.00 2d 11h 39m

So.. worst case senario, and i cant sell them, i should be able to put a buy it now, for £25, and shift them and still cover my postage??.. not making a loss..

The reason im concerned and scared is due to the large upfront payment (its protected), but im a bit of a wuss gambling with money on a credit card!!.. YIKES!

    So.... YAEY or NAI?

You need to work out the exact break even point on ebay including paypal and ebay fees. I also allow for 1 item it 20 to be faulty, damaged or unsellable. Work this into all calculations. Re-listing also cost money. I allow 10p per item as a relisting cost. Then work out if you would pay the break even price for the item today, tomorrow and next month. If you would then its worth a punt.

  • Final post for today. My girlfriend and i are looking to save £30,000 in 18mths for a deposit for a house. This year we are going to be focused from day one. I have drawn up budgets, lists, plans and everything and this is very achievable but will take some effort and forward thinking.

Last night i asked my girlfriend to write down everything she has to buy (not food etc but everything else for the next 12mths) As mentioned yesterday we have brought 80% of our Christmas presents for next year already and now some of the birthday presents. Her list included this cream that she is low on. Its £20 a bottle and she uses 1 maybe 2 bottles a year. Yesterday we brought 2 for £12 in the sale saving us £28. This continued through the list and we saved between 30 - 50% on most items.

As long we continue to use them at the same rate (can't see why we wouldn't) we will have saved on average 40% of our cosmetics costs for the year without changing brands.

One last thing she also she likes Victoria Beckham perfume. i wanted to get her the gift set with cream before Christmas. I had seen the prices in many stores and on-line and it fluctuated between £9.99 and £22.50!! I was ready to buy it at £9.99 when i saw that it was on sale on a website i visit at £7.99. I brought 10 of them. I gave her one for christmas, kept one for her birthday (March) and sold the other 8 for £16.99 each on ebay. (worry she got other stuff too)

If you know the market, the value and the demand for an item you can make money. I would suggest that people looking for ideas should start with the things they buy for themselves, their family and other and work from there. T

    Happy new year all

For those of you planning on selling plants, do a bit of homework. I'd expect anyone selling me a plant to be able to tell me if it's annual, perennial or whatever and also whether I should be planting it in full sun or part shade, etc. You don't need to be Alan Titchmarsh - just read the packet and try to remember as much as you can. If I asked someone at a bootie where it would do best and they shrugged and said "er, in some compost" I'd put them down and walk away.

Yes... Too easy! I know now how much I have been ripped off in the past buying craft stuff... I am not happy and want to throw the whole bl**dy lot out! However, it will all be photographed and can go on eBay at some point. I need the space anyway!
