  • This looks interesting, I managed to save quite a bit last year and was staggered at how easy it could be once you get started. I would definately like to try my hand at this, although I will be aming for £5000.00 anything more will be a bonus :)

Verian Wynn - Fantastic suggestion. just pretend to do it for a few weeks, and see how it works out!
Nakmeister - thats what i was worried about mostly. like from my £100 ho much would a broker take as fees, as i realise in the worl of socks and share £100 isnt a lot of money!
but yeah, ill invest some fake money and see what happens!

The Yorkshire BS Internet Saver, with optional cash card, pays 2.1% AER. You only need £1 to open it and can save up to £1 million.

Would you be able to apply online, or do you need to have an account with them?
    Thanks
    Ginga

Oh dear, joined Bingo Britain last night, played my £5 and lost it all :rotfl:. My original £10 is down to £5 but still going for £1k - I won't be beaten by a game of bingo. I'm going to be like the man who sold the red paper clip and bought a house...:D (I hope)

have a look at Quidco as there is some banks/BS offering cashback - i think alliance and Leicester are offering £45 for opening an account but you will have to check the account suits your needs. either that open one let it run until you get your cashback and then close it!

  • I've noticed a few people are thinking of making and selling things. Have you considered selling your handmade products on folksy or etsy? They are both sites where people can set up a shop to sell handmade goods. Etsy is the larger American site, Folksy is a smaller UK site. I listed some notebooks I made in December on Folksy and sold 17 items. It only costs 20p to list an item for 6 months and with no sale fees you get to keep most of the profit you make on your products. I'm hoping folksy/etsy sales will contribute at least a small amount towards my 10k!

Hi Jodda, glad to see you here. i also lost all my bingo britain.

Auctions can be a hit or miss, i have dabbled before where you go along to a local auction and have a good rake round - most auctions have catalogues so you have a rough idea how much things are going for and pick out a couple of items you think you could make money on if they go for the estimate, sometimes they go above estimate - WALK AWAY! if there are other things that are struggling to get a bid weigh it up quickly could you sell on for a profit if so BID - but you have to have an idea of where you can sell it on - ebay is not always good for this, spend some time at auctions to see what things go for or get hold of the catalogue before the sale and see what you could sell it on for by checking completed listings on ebay (remember all the fees - commission at auction house, insert fees etc.) Keep away from things like Doulton unless you have done research first as you will be up against the "real" Dealers.
you get allsorts at auctions (you would be surprised!) try and find a corner in the market - bikes for instance but instead of normal auctions try and find out when and where your local police auction is - you'll find hundreds and hundreds of bikes for a couple of pounds, "tart them up and punt them on"
