Opinions on Betterware?

Does anyone have experience of being a distributor for Betterware? Am looking into this instead of Avon mainly because of the charges Avon make for the books etc. Any opinions for or against would be gratefully received. Thanks. :j

It depends on your area. Our's is saturated with Betterware and Kleeneze reps. I get fed up with the books coming through the door and never even look at them now. I just leave them out with a note stuck on asking them not to leave any more.
Here I go again on my own....

I dont understand anyone who buys from these catalogues--its all about 3 times the price you can get elswhere (Poundland sell Astonish stuff for £1)
  • I worked for betterware for around 4 months, In the hole time my life was a living hell.

This just might only be me, But i have been told by other betterware members these things have also happened to them.

    1) I was shouted abuse at nearly everytime i dropped a catalogue.
Many people have had bad exp with them in the past with payments, Del, Head sales reps being pushy.

    2) Injuries are not covered, But that i mean,
I injured my back & tummy lugging 400+ books out 4 times a week, My leader asked me to at least cover over 1800 house's every month, Because her sales was down she NEEDED us to cover her loss each month.
(I was ment to be signed off by my GP for 3 weeks, But i was unable to have the time off because she wanted me to work)

    3) That ask you to hold massive amounts of wallets, Pick up notes ect..

    4) Products: I made £500 in orders, £372 was handed back to buyers because the items was faulty!

    5) The remaining £128 i had collected was worked out i should have made £39 pounds, My sales leader told me i was only getting £14.98 as the rest was her's

Now i aint trying to put you off working for betterware, Maybe i just had a bad deal with them, But i still have all of the faulty products & paper ect.

My sales leader told me to keep them as i broke them. When i never even had the goods in my home!

In the end i quit. I reported to betterware, Who really didn't care.
At least with avon, Everyone i know gets better support & understanding.
    Future goals:
    Become debt free.
    Beat Depression.
    Be happy & healthy

Thanks for all your replies- it's not looking very good so far!
  • I work for Betterware as a Distributor and have done for around 6 months now. One of the HUGE benefits of picking Betterware over Avon or Kleeneze is the book costs like you mentioned, they're absolutely free including all stationary, so if you have a bad week you'll still make a little bit of money without losing it to the books.

In regard to the other replies, yes there is a fair bit of legwork depending on the type of houses you get and obviously how many you'll get. If they have long driveways and gates you need to open/shut everytime you deliver and pickup it will take longer. Walking is free however so keep that in mind.

You might well do get a little bit of abuse from people who do not want the book but thats fair enough, they're optional and not everyone will want one. Ask your Co-Ordinator for a list of 'Leave No Book' houses, these should be in a record and will be all of the houses that have requested no more! Keep this updated yourself and you won't get anyone throwing abuse at you.

Injuries are not covered indeed, although I think all of the jobs similar to this they won't be covered either. If your signed off by your GP, then you shouldn't be working regardless of what your Co-Ordinator has said.

They don't really ask you to hold 'MASSIVE' amounts of stationary, I use the top of one cupboard and that holds all of the stationary, books and forms.

As for the products, yes some are expensive and some are flimsy and will break. Most businesses will have these problems, its just something you have to deal with. As for £372/£500 being returned.. I really can't understand that, you would have to be deliberatly breaking them to rack up that much returns. Out of £500 sales week, normally £20ish or less will be returned in broken goods.

And lastly your commission, If you've sold £128 in total then you would be entitled to 20% of that, which is £25.60. I don't know where you have got £39 from and the fact that your Co-Ordinator left you with £14.98 is actually stealing. Your entitled to 20% of EVERYTHING you successfully sell, not including returns.

Betterware will not make you a millionaire or even rich for that matter, but if you want a steady £20-£100 extra every week then it serves that purpose very well, especially for the small amount of work you actually have to do.

If you have any more questions, please let me know and I'll answer them as honest and unbiased as I can :)

    I've been Money Tipped!
I did Betterware for a while, but it didn't really get me anywhere. Probably made about £30. I didn't have any problems from the person who recruited me, but she did get a lot of hassle from the area manager and he started hassling me for a while once I decided to stop. It was also a bit of a pain going to her house each week to drop off orders collect the stuff that had been ordered. Not sure if all managers work like that though.

It probably works best if you don't have another job or only work part-time - the more books you can deliver the more chance of orders. Might be worth asking around to see if there is a call for the books. You might not get streets in your neighbourhood if someone else already does them.
Also, try and use some sort of trolley if you can - the books can be heavy to carry. As far as I remember, distributors don't pay for any of the stationery.

People do buy from the catalogues, often it's those that can't easily get out to supermarkets and suchlike, so you're kind of providing a service to them.

    Hope this helps a little.
  • I too worked as a Betterware agent fo a couple of months, it wasn't worth the effort. Avon was better, IMO.

    Cheers, HG
