Simplicity sim 20 for iphone?

Has anybody been able to get the o2 iphone simplicity 20 sim, we have phoned retentions and unknowingly been put through to sales, when I said what I wanted, had to listen through a long sales pitch for mobile broadband etc!!!
My order was taken and credit check done. I got a confirmation email, whilst I was still on the phone, which was for the ordinary simplicity sim! When I queried this I was told that iphone simplicity didn't exist (this is when I was told I was speaking to sales)

I asked for it to be cancelled striaght away as it was the wrong product, only to be told they couldn't do it and would need to phone a different number!

Anyway I phoned the other number (08001313136) was put through to someone else, who said their systems were down! but it wouldn't be a problem to add the iphone package, but phone tomorrow.

I phoned again yesterday, and was told they had never heard of simplicity for iphone, but on checking with his supervisor was told oh yes! it does exist but they unable to sell it at the moment.

I then requested for my wrongly ordered sim to be cancelled (not yet received) which I am assurred has been cancelled, only to receive email notification of a bill! I want to give up!! But then I really do want this iphone deal!

I thought that iphone simplicity plan was just a retentions offer for people coming to the end of their contract and not available to anyone else ??? (but I could be wrong).

Thats correct- it's exactly the same as the normal £20 SIM only plan but with hotspot support. If you don't need the hotspot support there are better SIM only deals out there.
  • Yes, I know that, my iphone free wi-fi ends next week, and my sons 18 month contract ended months ago, so he wanted to change over to the simplicity package!

The thing is even retentions did not know about it!

I read that it only comes online when the first iPhone contracts reach their end, which I think is the 18th (next week).
I'd think retentions can't put anyone on one yet as they're not live on the O2 system yet.
  • The first 2g iphone contracts ended a while ago. My son has had his original phone for more than 2 yrs!

Most of the above posts are not true in my opinion. Bar the first one, I have had similar customer service blunders, They sent my sim pack out with no sim in it, so i'm phone less at the moment

I joined O2 on simplicity 15 last week 4th December. I called them up today and asked to be transferred to Iphone simplicity 20, after being on hold for 25 mins, it was sorted and will come into effect on 8th January (my next bill date)

But it is done through retentions only, thats why i was on hold for most of my o2 experience today.

p.s i don't even have an iphone :rotfl: I just wanted the free wifi.
  • I bought my iPhone 3G on release day (11th July 08 I think) and so on hearing about this deal, contacted O2 and went straight through to the retentions team.

The first person I spoke to stated that their system was down and asked me to call back the following day but she confirmed the existence of the "Simplicity 20 for iPhone" tariff. Rather than wait, I called them back 30 minutes later and miraculously their systems were up and running again. The chap I spoke to looked at my account and stated I had to call on or after 12th December for them to place me on this tariff on 11th January when my contract ends.

I don't know about the iPhone 2G. Is your son on any other contract after the initial time was up? Maybe this tariff doesn't officially kick in until Jan 11th for all those eligible.

In your case this is correct I think, your in a contract, and you can upgrade 1 month exactly before it runs out, not a day before. Try again tomorrow ;)

After joining sim only i would never take out a 1/5 of a decade contract again ! its good to be able to change your mind anytime you like. I just buy the handset on 0% credit card and pay it off bit by bit
  • My son has just let his original contract run on, without an upgrade! He has since bought a 3g (last xmas) and now a 3gs (bought factory unlocked in Dubai) which he uses on this contract when he is in the UK, as he lives abroad.
My OH has been using the pay&go sim that he got when he bought the 3g in the original 2g, hence the need to change now the wifi is runing out!
    Hope you can follow this!
