Good Evening All,
Next month I will be renting a flat for the first time. Please could you explain what insurance I can get for my possesions. I will be moving into a furnished property.
And roughly how much would this cost and how I can arrange this. My estate agent do not offer insurance so I will need to shop else where.
Thank you for your help!!!

You only need to get contents insurance. Shop around a bit, but don't just go for the lowest quote - see what they include with their policy like free legal cover or free travel insurance.
Also, the more cover you want the more it will cost - if you have 10 laptops, 34 tellys and huge amounts of expensive furniture, remember to add it all together then tell them you want that amount of cover - not just what is the cheapest which will provide the lowest level of financial cover in the event of a claim.0 -
got my contents insurance through asda financial services for £68 (includes Accidental)
+ £22.50 quidco to come.0 -
Its worth checking the following points on your policy (or potential policy)
Do they include possessions when taken out of the home, do they cover accidentel breakage, do they cover stuff like bikes etc.
Most policies have a maximum item value, on my policy it is 500£0 -
When you get contents insurance, elect to take the optional extra of *Legal Cover too, but first read the smallprint to check that they don't exclude taking legal action against your landlord (if you have a problem landlord). This Legal Cover cost me an extra £18.50 per year.
I found that the Lloyds TSB contents insurance, Legal Cover exclusions, stated that they did not cover you for solicitors fees against your landlord. Saga stated they would give up to £50,000.00 legal cover if you needed to take your landlord to court or defend yourself.
Don't forget to use one of the cashbach sites to get cashback on your policy ie
www.topcashback.co.uk
*Legal Cover - An insurance you can add on to your house contents insurance policy (for a just a few pounds every year) that might cover you for solicitors fees if you need to take legal action against someone or to defend legal action against you. You need to get authorisation from your insuance company before appointing a solicitor.
Legal Cover limits vary from company to company.RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

I went for the Ednsleigh Contents Insurance for Tenants, with an added extra to cover the landlord's stuff and a further extra that covered me if there were a break-in/vandalism. This break-in/vandalism part covers me for things like broken windows and broken in doors, to immediately get somebody out to fix them/make the property secure, just so I can get it sorted immediately, rather than having to rely on being able to get hold of the landlord and his promptness. I just figured if I came home at 2am and found a problem, my chances of getting the landlord out and dealing with it were probably slim.0
