Suggestions for making cheap chocs look expensive?

How about finding some little baskets ,big enough to hold the chocs in a nice pile,a bit like a heaping handful, then wrap the chocs in sellophane and tie with a ribbon and put in the basket. You could always buy 9 or ten pic n mix foil wrapped chocs and add a few in to each pile to add an interesting variation.
I dont think its horrible, people can be very mean if you turn up with nothing even if you have zero income.
Also posh presents are not necessarily nice, we have had 'posh' biscuits bought for us a few times from expensive shops ,which are basically a packet of assorted biscuits laid in a tin.0 -
Oh no!! I'm going to have to taste them......killer :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Thanks for all the suggestions, and point taken about them possibly tasting foul.
Well now I'm curious to know how they taste.......!
If they aren't so good, you can use them inn cakes and cookies anyway.....and if they're a delish bargain, let us know what the box is like!0 -
sorry i think thats horrible. Poundland chocs are horrible. I would say if you cant afford a present dont bother or make something yourself. Thats really cheapskate and nasty sorry!
That's mean!
Clare there were some expensive looking teabags in poundland and expensive biscuits . Would it be cheaper than buying gift boxes and tissue to bundle them together in cellophane and put on a big bow? You can sometimes pick up cheap baskets from the charity shops (20p). I must admit I did something similar when we were very skint for the in-laws. I would happily do it again if need be.0 -
i think people have loads of chocs at xmas anyway. I would try and think of something else or offer to do something else for them.:footie:0

Have you never heard the saying it's the thought that counts??!! Judging by the amount of people on Poundland, then that's a lot of cheapskate and nasty presents..........including some for my daughter!!
Thanks for all your suggestions. I'm actually very tempted to give nothing, as that was exactly what we agreed two years ago, but everyone gave token presents. It's actually working out quite expensive though, and this year we're having to cut right back!!
I'm at work at the moment, but will have a taste of the chocs later and let you all know.0 -
Have you maybe thought about making something yourself?? I have been posting on the sweets and chocs thread because I am making a box of chocs for the in-laws..... plus I have an army of helpers to tell me how gorgeous they are. So far I have made the most delish fudge... takes quite a bit of time what with all the beating of the ingredients and ingredients cost around £2.50 but it makes two trays (and OMG its delish), and Baileys truffles, made with digestive biscuits, you may have most of the stuff in, and you don't have to flavour it with anything, ingredients cost about £2.00 - £2.50 if you haven't got them in, and they make about 60 or 70. And today I am making some truffles with cream cheese, ingredients cost about £1.50 ish. Some are being dipped in chocolate, others are plain, some sprinkles etc, some flavoured with rum, baileys, strawberry essence or vanilla and some dark, milk or white chocolate flavour to give a good mix. I know these are delish cos I keep tasting them lol, plus that way you have the added extra of actually making them and feeling like sweet maker extraordinare when they gush about how delish they are!!!Starting weight 17st 4lb - weight now 15st 2lbs
30lb lost of 30lb by June 2012 :j:j:j (80lb overall goal)0 -
clairec - do you have a home bargains near you? I went in the other day and they had tube shaped tins full of shortbread biscuits and teddy bear shaped choc chip cookies for 79p, bought a couple of tins and the teddy ones are lovely. Aldi have some nice stuff too. nice bottle of olive oil or jar of olives could be fancied up with ribbon or popped in a box with shredded tissue.
Instead of a token pressie, could you have a secret Santa where one couple buys for just one other couple, if you see what I mean. Or do you have time to make some homemade biccies or something, flippin heck I'm getting carried away
Christmas isn't about spending a fortune it's the thought that counts and the things I treasure are homemade Christmas decorations and stuff like that.:hello:
