Hi, a quick google search has confirmed that
"Caradon, whose brand portfolio includes Ideal Boilers and Stelrad Radiators, was listed as 50th in The Sunday Times' Top Track 250 which ranks Britain's biggest unquoted companies by latest sales. The league table is designed to highlight the private companies that form the backbone of the UK business economy."

We''ll have to wait and see - NPower have been doing some good deals with insulation and they are not the rip off British Gas. At least they have ADDED it to the goverment scheme, they could of just done the recommended £400 - give them some credit for trying.
It will come down to the quote I know, but the goverment is getting pressure from europe to reduce the carbon footprint, who are passing the pressure onto the energy companies.0 -
Don't suppose my Dunsley back boiler, coal and wood fire only, will qualify for scrappage scheme, its over 20 years old? Have been thinking of changing to gas, though have been told will cost arm and leg to get gas to my door.0

Does anyone know if I would qualify? I have a direct water immersion cylinder and it costs a fortune to run. There is also zero heating in the house. I want to install a new gas system in the whole house, would I get help?0

I've got a 'Potterton Myson Marathon 500B' which is serviced every year under the BG Homecare scheme and always receives a clean bill of health and keeps the house nice and warm. I cannot find the model under the SEDBUK list but according to the report the gas engineer leaves he's marked it down as a G. can I take it then that this boiler is officially rated as a G?

Typically you could end up paying £3500 or more for a top of the range boiler. The scrappage scheme will get you back only a small fraction of the vast excess that you are already paying. Want to know how to do it properly?
Either get yourself a gas safe engineer you know and trust, or put an advert in for a boiler replacement (labour only) job on the rated people website ratedpeople.com . Put your max budget at £450 for a full boiler replacement and do not pay more than this. Next get yourself logged on the Mr central heating website (mrcentralheating.com) and choose the boiler you want. You can buy this as a boiler change pack (with the bits and pieces the engineer will need) or as a full central heating pack. I went for the first option.
I would advise that you first do a bit of research like I did and pick a reliable model or the best one to suit your budget. I went for the reliable model tested and recommended by Which magazine ( a Vaillant pro-model) at £1055 but you can also get a top of the range Worcester Bosch for a little bit extra. In the end the entire job cost me only £1500 in total and we are delighted with the new boiler. I'm pretty sure the same job would have cost double with British Gas since a friend of mine paid them almost £4000 for a Worcester Bosch.
Alternatively, if you are too lazy to buy one and to organise getting a quote from rated people, you could go to frasc who will supply and fit although the prices they show on the website do not include timer and flue so you will end up paying more. google for frasc.info and you should find the site.

Hi Arctic chimp, thank you for posting this very helpful. I was just wondering how you chose the pack - we only have an old back boiler at the moment so are we best going for the complete central heating pack or does that not make a difference? Obviously the less money the better! Thank you in advance0 -
