If no luck with Safe Mode, and you didn't create a recovery CD, best bet is to remove the hard drive, place it in a USB drive caddy, then use another PC to recover the files you need, then do a factory restore.
This is assuming you don't have drive failure.
Did you not back up your files though?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    It's not hardware, it's software.

Safe mode with command prompt, what happens, do you have the os disk? Caddy is something to put the hard disk in, and attach via usb to another pc, google it.

If you want your data, and none of those boot options work, you either need a caddy, attach internally to another pc, or a windows disk to do a repair, or a linux/winpe/erd boot cd to boot from.

  • It does sound like software related and the best way of fixing it is a full restore but you will lose everything on your laptop so you need to try and save before a restall what you want to save from the hdd.
Sony also have some good diagnostic software built in, think it's F8 but not certain, and can't remember the option you choose now but it does have checks for the hard drive, memory and start up egs
