Health & Bl**dy Safety...

  • I know this stupid Health and Safety business it's all a load of crap the bin men are too lazy too empty to empty them
  • A couple of years ago our binmen put a sticker on mine. Said they wouldn't empty it because the lid was raised by 2 inches. Health and safety risk apparently.

I rang the council but nobody could elaborate on what the actual risk to the binmen was. They agreed to come back and empty it the next day as long as I took the top bag out. So they had to send the bin truck plus the binmen all the way back (and I live on the outskirts of the borough) just to collect one bin.

Efficient? Don't think so. No wonder my council tax is so much.
  • My binmen have just refused to take the whole street's new recycle bins our council has dished out to everyone, because the lids were open on every one. Thing is they made them badly and the lids don't shut even when empty, still, it's our problem it seems.
    Male. :o
  • It would seem round our way that the bin men don't give a thought about anyones H&S, except their own!

One lovely morning, I happened to be watching out of the window, as I've had some problems with my nice clean wheelie bin being nicked by the neighbours - different story, but anyway... saw the bin men pushing a bin towards the lorry, a small carrier bag fell out of the top of the bin, he carried on - having not picked the bag up - bin was emptied and rolled back to the kerb.

On his way back to the lorry, which has moved about 10 yds down the road, he picks up the dropped bag and instead of carrying it to the lorry and placing it in, he stands back and flings it in the vague direction of the lorry (how on earth he could miss it I have no idea???!), bag misses, hits the road and glass shatters all over the road (this was before we had any glass recycling facilities – before anyone says anything:p).

At this point, I was expecting mr bin man to clean up the mess he had just left all over the place, but oh no, he quite calmly walked on, ignored the mess and carried on wheeling bins back and forth.

I called the council to complain and was told the team that deal with tidying up after the bin run - first time I had ever heard of such a team - were in our area and would be there later that morning to sort it out.

When asked why they hadn’t cleaned it up themselves, I was told........yes you guessed it, good old Health and Safety - they can’t do it in case they injure themselves!! funny really, as I managed to get most of it off the road and into my bin, without injuring myself - perhaps I have magical powers:cool:

Drives me absolutely potty, whatever happened to common sense?????

    here endeth the vent.....

Thought the target was to empty the bin in the truck.
