Got home tonight to find our black bin with a note on it
"Not Emptied as too Heavy"

It only had normal household waste and I could move it around without too much difficulty.

Seems the H&S excuse can be used when people don't fancy doing their job properly. mad.gif

They're coming back tomorrow, but no doubt will leave everything I need to take out of the bin to make it lighter behind.

If my bin is too heavy, maybe they can't cope with the weight of my council tax cheque and I should lighten the load for them razz.gif

Anyone else had this pathetic excuse?

  • How do you check your council tax?

We had to go without our wheelie bin for a couple of weeks because it fell in the back of the bin lorry.

Do they take the time to actually weigh the bin?

Or is is some person just pushing it and going "this feels a bit overweight"?
We all evolve - get on with it

Get onto the council at their offices, your local free rag (who normally love this kind of story) and also your local councillor (use writetothem.com to find out who they are and send them a message if you're not sure); if it's too heavy it's too heavy - but if you truly believe they're taking the p*ss on this, then go after them.

Good luck - let us know how you get on!

In the good old days they would have to lift the bin onto their shoulder to empty it. AND they would collect it from the back of property and also return it.
    Load of wimps nowadays.

The bin man may be able to move it, but the machinery on the back of the lorry may struggle - especially if there is more weight in the bottom than the top.
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

Then surely the machine's are not up to the task?

I've got 2 kids under 2 so you can imagine what my bin contains...
Yes it's probably heavier than some but if it was collected every week like they used to, it wouldn't be a problem at all.

Binmen today are a diff breed, they are very delicate creatures their muscles are weaker and must be handled with care.I think we should help by wheeling our own bins to the lorry and letting them sit in the cabin pressing buttons.

You don't live in Wiltshire do you ? they are experts at all sorts of tricks like this.

Too heavy - must pass the 2 finger test ! Yes, really ! (I know who deserves the 2 finger test !)
    Too far from the kerb
    Too close to the kerb
1 dead flower in the black bin
1 sheet of kitchen roll in the green bin
and you are damned for ever if display a copy of the "Telegraph" on top of the recycling box ! Sun or the Mirror is best - Guardian is understood but not read.
