Garage advice needed

Options
Hello !! I have a detatched garage at the end of my garden, we don't use it and thought we could convert it into something...(either to rent out or add value to the house)
Does anyone have any ideas, it is 17sq M so apparently too small to convert into a bedsit to rent out, but I am stuck for any other ideas???
Thanks

forget accommodation, you could always rent it for storage or to someone without a garage.
  • We have a garage but no car so just keeping bins and bits and bobs in there. Does anybody have any ideas of how to work out how much to charge for renting a garage out? I haven't seen any advertised locally to compare! Our next door neighbour has 2 cars and no garage but I don't know if he would be interested  We are not near town centre or prime area but there are quite a few BMW / Mercedes owners near us and I hear there is a higher than average car crime rate in the Borough!

Build a house there!!!! Sorry too much sun and wine:beer: but you might be able to lget ots of money!!! But I do know students who lived in a converted garage and were very happy and one of OH's colleagues from Germany rented one out which was converted in Newcastle and was very happy there too. I suppose it depends where it is. Storage is an easy option.:j
    Good luck!!

If you are thinking of converting it, check your deeds; ours only allow one home to be on the plot.

  • We also have a garage at the bottom of the garden, same size as yours. DH recently converted it into a cinema room, it is awesome. I don't think a cinema room would add value though, if you're after making money, then renting it out may be a better option.

The reason you dont se many available, is 'cos people usually snap em up!!

Depending on area, £10/week is probably OK.

But, think about it BEFORE letting anyone have it - potential problems, if you wanted it back, in a hurry. Also you'll be letting part of your home, so insurers will want to know.

COULD be not worth the hassle, if you had problems!!

And check with the local planning authority!

  • If you have children or grandchildren why not make it into a kids den where only kids are allowed in!!!!!!!

Nothing expenisve, paint the walls with pictures, soft toys, etc. Easy to do and lots of fun for the kids:T
  • Or a party room? A friend in Germany has one in his garden shed. It is great fun a bit like your own little bar at the side of your beer garden. Even used it in the snow when we drank copious amounts of Gluwein!!
Not very moneysaving!! But then you could charge your friends to come in, but obviously not for the drink as you would need a licence!!!!!!!!:rotfl:
    Just a thought!!!
