Advice? New to GCH, White Meter, etc

Forgive me if this has be asked previously, but I read back about 10 pages and didn't see anything.

I come from a place where everything is electric and you get one bill...easy (albeit at times expensive). This makes me completely inexperienced with GCH, boilers, white meter heating, double meters, etc. Could some one help me understand what I have and if I am being billed correctly? (forgive me if in my descriptions below if I am stating the obvious)

I have a combi-boiler (heat and hot water) with no wall thermostat, and no other units that I can find in the flat (i.e. water tanks or other). I have 3 meters (one low, one normal, one gas).

I recently moved into this rented flat (small 1 bedroom) and to the advice of my colleagues in my search, I avoided white meter heating. I have just received my first bill (from Scottish Power, although I am not sure if that matters), and low and behold it says white meter electricity? I am at a loss to understand the purpose/ benefit of it for me. When I am sleeping at night, nothing is on, or can be on if I am not heating a water tank (washing machine doesn't have a timer). Is that accurate?

My electricity statement is spead over 3 rates: NSC White Meter Night, Secondary and Primary.

Basically, I am wondering if this is something I should change, or even if that is possible.

Can anyone advise me?

Run a search on the boards, it's in the blue bar at the top of the stickies. You would probably be better off searching for 'Economy 7' which is another name for white meter. You also need to speak to SP and see if they will add your electricity readings together to make one bill, and then put you on a single rate tariff.

I think you have, and are having a little fun  Too many things going on there, if you have metering and billing for electricity as you describe it's Comfort Plus not white meter, all electric with gas central heating???

If genuine ring Scottish Power and get them to remove the meters and fit a single rate one.

    What, no fridge?

Or do you turn it off every night?

Well, the NSC means no standing charge, which means you are paying a bit dearer for the primary units, could never see the benefit of NSC unless for a holiday home, or a house that was only occupied occasionally.

Apart from that if you are on gas central heating, there is no need for a 3 rate meter, you should be on a single rate domestic meter.

well I have gas heat, hot water and hob, and the rest is electric and my bill does say white meter.

Will I have to pay for them to come and change the meter?

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I meant that I don't run anything at night that would give me an advantage to having cheaper night rates like the washing machine or a hot water tank.

    Are you sure?

Because here it says a white rate meter gives 8.5hours per day of low rate electricity
    http://www.eastlothian.gov.uk/downloads/ComfortPlus_White_Meter_new.pdf

Whilst E7 obviously only provides for 7 hours low rate
