Well I just phoned game, and they are fobbing me off saying the SOGA only applies to manufacturer and not them. Told me to phone head office, which is pretty useless since they are closed!!
Should I email?0 -
Oh dear !
Yet again people are busy quoting SoGA without really understanding what it means.
This thread is headed: "Sale of goods act (6 year repairs)". This is rubbish - the Sale of Goods Act says absolutely nothing about repairs over a 6 year period.
This Act gives merely the consumer a six year (in England) period in which he can "claim damages" - whether he/she gets them is another matter.
Strictly speaking (SoGA) after an item is 6 months old the onus is on all purchasers to prove the goods did not conform to contract (e.g. was inherently faulty).
Storming into a shop and telling the shop assistant that the item HAS to be repaired up to 6 years after purchase, is not only legally incorrect, but also makes the complainant look stupid !
Please read and understand !!!

Well, I phoned the other Branch of Game and they are going to repair it under the SOGA, so no they don't HAVE too replace/repair the product but they are.
If it's a faulty product I don't see why you should remain out of pocket and have to purchase another one. If you dropped it then fair enough.
They are also giving me a £40 gift card to buy a new game (as OH's one is stuck in the machine) so must be something too it if they are doing all that.0 -
Our PS3 60GB model failed yesterday with the YLOD syndrome !!. Paid £349 for it also. Son whose it is really is devastated. It is just over two years old and was bought from HMV online. I have sent a polite e mail to them quoting the soga and requested a repair or replacement.
First steps, but i will feel really let down for something costing this much to fail 25 months later.0 -
Speaking of this, we got the PS3 fixed and 3 weeks later, it died of the YLOD again. Game won't give us a new one until it's broken 3 times and been repaired. I don't hold out much hope of it surviving very long if it only managed 3 weeks of "light use" (Oh normally plays loads) It's clear that the fault can't be repaired for a long time.
Hope you get it sorted Rich66. The first game tried to fob me off, but the 2nd were great. Headquarters were really good too. Thumbs up to them, lets hope HMV get yours sorted too.0
