  • Good outcome. any chance we can get this 3 yeas in writing? lol

I have to say, thought they would put up a fight.

I thought they would fob me off also. My husband did phone them when it first broke before we knew our rights and they said to contact Sony. It's only because I quoted the SOGA that they didn't argue .

    Lovely.

If you walk into somewhere with a piece of law, people do move a little quicker.

mmm i really wish TS tightened up on this and had powers for case per case fines to the stores.

As of now we just have to fight to the bone for what we should be given on a silver platter if needs be.
    Back by no demand whatsoever.
  • Hi - like you I've experienced the YLOD with my Sony PS3 - unfortunately for me - this is the 2nd time we've had this - how's that for luck!!!
First time - I contacted Sony - as it was approx 18 mths old at that stage -therefore out of warranty. They said they'd replace it with a refurbished model for the cool price of £145!!! For an easy life - I paid this and received the refurbished model in June of this year - with an additional 3 mth warranty. I planned to sign up for the Sony Continuous Play option at this stage - only to find out Sony had pulled the plug on this in July of this year.
I am reluctant (to say the least) to fork out more money - and am wondering what the best approach is? I don't have my original receipt - it was originally bought in Game - but of course this isn't the refurbished model - which we now possess.
    Any help appreciated
  • Has your refurbished now got the YLOD? When I went into Game they just asked for the serial number and didn't even request the receipt. I would think you would have to contact Sony, give them the serial number and they would have a record of it being sold to you. I don't know if the SOGA would apply in your case as I suppose it might be classed as second hand? Hopefully someone on here will have an answer for you that's more knowledgeable on consumer rights than me. I was lucky I found out my rights before I rang Sony and bought a refurb which I was going to do the next day.

A refurbished model wouldn't be classed as second-hand as, by Sony's own admission, it's fully refurbished to new.
    Squirrel!
If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
    Now 20% cooler
  • just for some info as I was checking these threads as my 23 month old 40GB PS3 stopped working due to the Blu-Ray no longer reading anything. Took it back into Gamestation today, told them the issue, told them I would like them to sort it, without issue guy offered me a brand new 120GB slimline model to replace it and if I paid £35 I could get a 2 year warranty with it. very happy, would have just sent it for repair if I had not read these forums.

My OH's 40gb Ps3 just got the yellow light of death earlier today, with his COD5 game stuck in it - He's gutted!

It's 24months old and was bought from game. He is moping saying it's out of warrenty but I'm sure it should be replaced as it should be expected to last longer than 2 years at the price of them!

I'm loathe to go out in the snow, and I'm not paying Sony £150 for a refurb and a shoddy 3months warrenty, so should I just phone game and see what they say?

Well it's just as well the shop boy knew !!!!!! all about SOGA, as you clearly don't either, and you would have made yourself look pretty stupid if questioned about it.

its a shame people have to do this though, and there is going to be a lot of people who don't know the law and will just pay the £150 to get a refurb model
