No. Depreciation is a killer.0

It wont be brand new if it is 09 plate. So you'll be the 2nd owner on the V5...
Also, you will look a knob driving one lol

Helpful aren't they?!

Depreciation isn't really an issue on a £6k car. Even after 3 years the car will have a residual value of around £2k. The OP could go out and buy a £12k Corsa and find it's worth £6k after 3 years - that's £6k of depreciation and an extra £6k of lost interest or extra finance charges.
On Autobytel a new Rio is going for £6,936, so only the OP can decide if a £700 saving is worth it.The man without a signature.0 -
If its actually brand new and you get the scrappage allowance it probably is.
Otherwise buy a pre-reg car, ideally from another manufacturer.0 -

As another poster says, if its an 09 plate, it isnt brand new, it must already be pre-registered, brand new ones are a 59 plate.
I bought my Corsa in October on an 09 plate, although it only had 18 miles on the clock it was preregistered, hence 2nd hand, and the price reflected this.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
The car has never had an owner, It is BRAND NEW.
The dealer says to wait 3 weeks and she can get a 2010 plate for £2000 extra!!
ALSO I am not buying it. It is a friend of mine!
sO, iT'S NOT WORTH IT THEN?
What advice would you give to some one who wishes to buy a new car cash for 10,000 or less?
Thanks!!!0 -

It's registered on a 09 plate - it must have had at least one registered keeper. Therefore, it's 2nd hand, even if it has only delivery mileage on the clock. Any car registered between the 1st Jan and 28th Feb will be a 59 plate. The dealer is running circles around your friend."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
Plates are changed every 6 months with cars,
It is not BRAND NEW.
tell your friend to look at the registration document before she buys it.
it will have a previous registered owner. (even if its just an agency that the garage uses) Which is what happened with me. The car had never actually been sold to a customer but it had to be registered. hence why mine only had 18 miles on the clockmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Plenty, tell them to shop around. If its a 'budget' car, then the hyundai i10s, fiat pandas and fiat 500s seem popular, and depreciation probably not as savage as a rio.0 -
The deal itself isnt too bad although you could maybe pick up a Panda or something similar on a pre reg for similar.
However the killer for me would be the dealer describing it as brand new and trying to manipulate me and I would walk away.
It maybe hasnt been used much but it is not brand new, and the warranty etc is almost a year down etc. Anyone buying it in future will certainly count the previous owner and age and so should your friend.
Is the £6200 with or without scrappage? Is there a trade in? Or is the £6200 the actual normal car price.
Personally I would get along to Arnold Clark and order one of these instead http://www.arnoldclark.com/used-cars/fiat/panda/1.1-active-eco-5-dr/59/ref/blk_o3hkf5jzvee9yz1b/0
