does contract end automatcally?

My OH has had a sim only contract with Vodafone which is due to end on the 17 Dec, he has just taken out a new mobile phone contract with another company on the 02 network, will his sim only contract end automatically on its own or will he have to contact Vodafone to end the contract.

The contract will not automatically end, he will need to either give Vodafone 30 days notice to cancel the contract or request (and use) a port authorisation code (PAC) to transfer his number to his o2 contract.0
