Ebay Used item is Dirty

Hi
I recently bought a dress from eBay which was described as worn once. When i received the item, it had deodorant stains and had clearly not been cleaned.
Am I wrong to have expected the item to have been cleaned even though it said worn once?
Thanks in advance

Have you spoken to the seller that should be your first port of call. Ebay T&Cs actually state that all used clothing should be clean.0

I've just emailed the seller stating my issue. I was just a bit worried before just incase the fact that she stated it was worn once meant something.

Unless she wore it once on the day she walked it to your house stripped off on your doorstep and handed it to you, THATS MINGING!!!0

Personally I've received a lot of clothing that obviously hasn't been cleaned before sending. A few minor stains and perfume smells so nothing that bad- I've always just given the garment a gentle hand wash if I'm confident it will come out.
From my experience some people state in their listings that clothing will be washed and ironed before being sent, so presumably there are a lot of people who don't know they should wash the clothes first. It is a bit gross but I expect people simply can't be bothered and don't realise the receiver might be put out by having to wash it themselves before wearing it- especially if it's a hand wash only item.
As you've already spoken to the seller it's possible you may get a part refund for the inconvenience. I expect she has only worn it once or twice but depending on what you do in the garment it may have got a bit sweatier than usual0 -
I can understand what you're saying but I would always wash any used items from ebay when I receive them. Sometimes they come smelling of smoke etc so I'd rather wash them before I wear them... but then that's me!
I would def contact the seller to try and sort it out with them. Ideally you'll want positive feedback so that's the best way forward.0 -
Thanks for all your responses.
I'm glad it wasn't just me who thought it was disgusting.
I have always washed/dry cleaned items i have sold on ebay so i assumed that was the done thing to do. It never occured to me that people sell dirty items hence why i wasn't sure where i stood.
The dress requires drycleaning so i'm thinking a small refund to accomodate this should be ok?
I'm still waiting on the sellers response so I'll let you know what happens.
Thanks again"Dance like nobody's watching; love like you've never been hurt. Sing like nobody's listening; live like its heaven on earth." - Mark Twain0 -
I think its disgusting too!The truth is incontrovertible, malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end; there it is.

It is even worse if it is a dry clean only item - if it was machine washable, then you could just put it in your laundry with your usual load - but if you'll have to pay to get it dry cleaned, that isn't really on...and it really should've been mentioned in the listing. Why does nobody say Thank You anymore??:mad:Debt Free as of September 2011 :jSealed Pot 2009 number 334 - £100 Saved! yey!!Sealed Pot 2010 number 334 - £116.51 Saved! I bought a cape which was described as 'immaculate'. It came dirty - big yellow ingrained marks. The seller refused to pay for dry-cleaning costs (whcih I thought was a reasonable way to resolve things) and said 'It's vintage, so I meant 'immaculate for age' which is an 100% legal term'. Unfortunately for her I work in advertising regulation so am very aware of what constitutes a legal term!0

mippy: Raise a dispute/claim with Paypal and get your money back. The seller should have pointed out the marks in the add, vintage or not, and didn't, so your item was not as described. Put 'not as described' as the reason.
OP, it's a bit gross but I would just wash the item."All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." (Edmund Burke)
