It wouldn't make sense to have the & still in if they changed the meaning of the name. Although I suppose Bargains & Madness would be a good description of working there :rotfl: I'm sure I read on the website ages ago that it was the initials of the brothers who own the company, that's what our managers say as well because we always get people asking us what it stands for.
In fact, most of the stores I've seen say something completely different on the signs, for example the store I work in says B&M Bargain Madness, Middlesbrough says B&M Bargains and More, some just say B&M. Someone else who works there says she always thinks of Bangers & Mash :rotfl:
Anyway, a bargain....6 bags of Niknaks with 100% extra free, so 12 bags for 99p

Ah, website must have just said it was named after the original owners then, didn't realise at the time it was opened by two ladies, I always thought the brothers who had it now started the company. I'm pretty sure they haven't changed it to Bargain Madness though, because on some signs it would say Bargain & Madness, Bargain Madness. You'd think they would have taken the & out. It might as well be called that though because everyone thinks it is anyway!
In Stockton today we had the full range of Shining Star teddies, they're £1.79 each. That had allsorts, from memory:
Lion, tiger, white bunny, dragon, tabby cat, blue bear, pink poodle, elephant, penguin, frog, cow, unicorn, black cat, monkey, pink and blue bears, and loads moreD'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't importantTaste The Rainbow :heartsmil0 -

The brothers have only owned it for a couple of years and I believe the company is about 30 years old.Mortgage Free as of 31/5/11 :j:j:j:j:j:j:j0 -

Aye, read on the website it opened in the 70s, I'd never even heard of it until a a few years ago. It must have been a small business until recently, apparently the brothers are now multi-millionaires, opening about 5 new shops per week and are planning a couple of hundred new ones by the end of the year. I think it's a bit like Home Bargains where you only seem to get them in the Northern half of the country (I think) but they're planning to expand to be everywhere. They're obviously doing something right!D'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't importantTaste The Rainbow :heartsmil0 -
