the crisps i have sat in my kitchen are best before, the yoghurts and cheese strings were use by dates as was the mincemeat.

Im not being funny though they have a huge box of crisps with a sign saying 'out of date' on them and they are reduced if i wanted out of date crisps i would have got the cheaper ones and not paid 60p for a packet of out of date crisps!

We throw away too much stuff based on dates, rather than going by our own senses. Very little of what goes in our bin is food waste as we are smart about what we use. Cheese is a way of preserving milk so we don't pay any heed to the date once unwrapped.

I think wasteful attitudes can make people a bit sensitive.

That said, I totally agree with you, shops should not be selling stuff beyond "best before" at the same price as in date, in my opinion. I would have left it if it was a one off- or at the very most took the item back to the shop. But I agree with the advice above, seeing as this seems a systematic failure, report them.

Oh i agree with you completely and if the cheese strings i brought were only a few days out of date it probably wouldnt have phased me in the slightest but 2 months was a bit different :rotfl:

I dont mind buying things that are slightly out of date or even with a very short shelf life if i know they are going to be ok to eat but i do begrudge paying full price for them! :o:rotfl:

It really is the principle of it rather than anything else, though it does worry me that i have given the girls something that has caused their upset tummies without realising it was out of date :o Imo if i am paying full price for something off of the shelf i expect it to be in date! Im more annoyed with myself than anything else for not checking the dates on things more carefully :o

Havent had an email back from trading standards as yet, i think i will give them a couple more days and if i havent heard anything i will give them a call!
  • I always check the dates on the food which ASDA sell because that's my very local Supermarket I only live 5 mins walk away from the store & I wait until the item's get whoops down in price before buying them
  • there is a spar not a million miles from here thats like that

local shop on my street is better, not perfect but better
things arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back then ;)
