If the OP could give us more details regarding the seller then we might be able to see if their T&Cs specify if or when the contract has been formed.

which they have something like 28 days (?) in which to do so?

so it could go like this:

you go online, see something you want, at a reasonable (& not obviously incorrect) price
you pay for it, & they process the payment immediately

27 days later, they contact you to say that they had a pricing error, & they can either charge you more, or give you a refund
& they havnt accepted your offer to buy, because they havnt yet dispatched the item.

surely if 'standard' t&c's are that the contract is formed when the goods are dispatched, no one should be taking payment before they have the goods & are dispatching them?

will be interesting to see what the t&c's are like in the OP's case

I bought an item last night online and paid through google checkout (£168.02) I now have been informed that it was a special offer price and the web page had not been updated, it is now £11 more if I want it or not.
I presume they are allowed to do this?

Thanks for all the interesting replys, I have checked the company's T&C, this was number 10 on the list.

The price for the goods will be as stipulated at the time when you place your order. we are entitled to make adjustments to the price to take account of any increase in our supplier's prices, or the imposition of any new taxes or duties, or if due to an error or omission the price published for the goods on our website is wrong. We will inform you of the correct price and give you an opportunity to cancel the order. if the goods have already been delivered, we will give you an opportunity to return the goods and receive a full refund of the price and any delivery charges you have paid for the goods.

Sorry but I don't usually check T&Cs when I buy an item , I should have checked before posting on here.

    Thanks again
