Son in accident other driver drove off.
Just want to run something past you guys.
Son called me last night (18 and just passed test) from London to say that someone pulled out from a side street and hit his car every panel from front to back. Damage is quite bad but on a 13 year old Rover probably not worth doing anything about.
Anyway he pulled over and got out the car where upon the Asian woman drove off he only got a partial index and police have said tough.
He thinks she might live in the road and will stake the place out and see if he can see the car again.
Anything else woth doing?
(Please remember I havcen't seen the car and can only take the boy's word for the accident)

I doubt there is anything he could do, she is hardly going to admit it was her if he sees her and if the police say tough then I guess, theres nothing you can do, I would expect them to be a bit more supportive!!
However I wouldn't suggest he ' stakes her out' unless he is inspector taggart0 -
I suppose if he gets the number he can the take it from there.
I have just told him to be more on the ball the next time and get the number first.0 -
Just a silly thought, but has he tried google earth with the 3d view? The number plate may be blanked out but could help identify car.0

google earth would give him at least a three month old picture though, and that's assuming the picture of the area was only put up there today!?GREENS M'SHIP OFFER NOW CLOSED SO PLEASE DON'T ASK ME!Olympic Debt-free Challenge £2150/£11900 = 18.0%NOW INVESTIGATING AN ALTERNATIVE TO MY IVA - I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND ONE ANY MORE!0

The police won't have said anything of the sort. At least he will have a reference number and report.
If not I would suggest your son is withholding the truth from you.0 -
Did your son fill in a 'self reporting' form? Normally when you're the victim of the hit & run, the police give you a form which you fill in and return to the police station. They give you a crime reference number once it has been processed. There is no way they would say 'tough'.0

I'm guessing not all police forces work the same - in my force he should report it - even though theres nowhere to go with itm and get a log number - an officer will be allocated so he has a name to quote to insurance, but if any further info comes to light (ie reg no from witness, CCTV etc) that officer will then investigate0

It happened in London, so it should be the Met Police, who afaik use the self report system in these sorts of things. He needs to fill out a 'Form 207 a Self Reporting Accident form' according to the Met Police website.0
