Supporting statement for Council Job

Hello all,

I'm currently filling out an application which requires me to provide a supporting statement. I am struggling with this greatly as most of work has involved excel reports and bullet point powerpoint presentations.

I am finding it difficult to work out how much to write under each heading.

Example heading:

Knowledge:

· A clear understanding of people and performance management

In total there are 30 headings and I can relate to almost all of them but when it comes to finding words to put down on paper...I'm lost.

All help appreciated. Thanks

Is it not self explanatory? What would you like people to tell you? You need to write down how you have demonstrated each skill/ criteria.
    Gone ... or have I?

Wow...Maybe my post wasn't explanatory enough? I'm struggling to write my experience into words. Any tips other than the obvious?

  • You need to use the job spec to highlight the fact that you can do all parts of the role. So, take each heading individually-it will prob correspond to some aspect of the job spec and try and present a brief account of your experience in this area. Hope that makes sense! good luck

Here is a stab at the first heading. Can I have some feedbak please? Too much, not enough, not relevant, not complete etc. Thanks

A process which contributes to the effective management of individuals, teams & departments to achieve effective organisational performance.

In today’s environment there are a number of challenges we face, a few examples:

    Diverse workforce with varying needs
Diverse customer base with varying needs
    Company policies and processes

And we are also presented with a number of tools & solutions to help combat the above challenges.

Together these things can cloud the decision on what action to take and may then lead to head scratching on what little or no improvement has taken place.

During my time at XXXXXXXI was asked to manage a new team of Customer Service Officers. I conducted a needs analysis for each team member and provided feedback daily (Call stats, Quality, Confidence level) for the day before. I spent the second half of each day sitting side by side to perform live coaching to help bring them up to a level of performance in line with other experienced teams. Individual focus and reassurance on positive behaviours not only helped the officers as individuals but the overall performance of the entire team had improved.

I am at a loss to know what the first heading is! What you have written is fluff.

Are you sure that you should be going for a management role?

They are not looking for a text book answer but your answer. The bottom paragraph is closest to this.

Are you sure you should be giving advice? The first heading is in my first post...

Your first post gave an example heading, and has little relevance to what you then wrote in your third post.

You really need to go back to the drawing board! :p

Part of the Furniture 10,000 Posts Name Dropper
The advice I was given was the STAR approach

    S: Situation
T: Task you were assigned (sometimes overlaps with S)
    A: The action you took
R: Results of the actions you undertook

I agree with ali-t; your last paragraph is a reasonable answer, the rest is just waffle.
