Please, please demonstrate the essential and desirables of the person spec in your statement. We get incredible amounts of applications and shortlist using the essential znd desirables.

We had 208 applications in one week for one vacancy and ended up interviewing 12, my colleague had 178 in two days (interviewed 30) and another 408 in a week - checking they've applied for the correct job, the essentials, grammer and spelling only whittle down less than about half. The rest relies on the desirables to swing the vote.

You must always answer as though they are shortlisting on every single item on the PS, even if it means a single line referrign to it in passing.

they can't just give jobs in house if the best candidate was external. There has to be proof why that person gets the job. There have been plenty of occasions why an internal person hasn't got the job.

Good God. I didnt real how laughable the public sector truly was, until I read this thread.
