Hi
I have had my hero about 3months now and the signal is just rubbish even if I switch to 2g literally 4 bars one min 0 the next!!! Its a nightmare to browse on the internet or try speak to my friends via msn without dropping out every min or so! Thing is I love the phone bar this problem

My previous phone was fine I just wondered if anyone else had a problem? I rang Orange who replaced the handset as they could find a fault with it but my new phone is just as bad.

As I said I do love th phone but wil have to change if it continues does anyone know if I have rights to demand a new brand and if indeed the reception in my area has dropped can I get out of my contract?

Thanks in advance

No rights to a replacement phone - simply your existing one checked to ensure it is operating within the correct parameters. If your original has problems that require a replacement, it will be up to the service centre to agree this.
  • Hi I have the same issue on Orange and after looking on Google we are not on our own. My wife is on Orange and her LG Viewty has full signal in the our lounge where my hero has noe to one bar occasionally. I love the phone so this is frustrating and yes it's on the latest firmware (phone is only 1 week old). I have contacted Orange and was told no-one else has complained?
If I get anywhere with this I will update here.
    Cheers

  • I have the same problem on my phone. Love it to bits but I have had to go down to 2G. The Orange rep didn't seem to see the irony of selling themselves as having the country's biggest 3g network but premium phones that are too poor to use it!

I am currently using mine in areas where previous phones have had full 3G signal.

As I said love the phone but the signal quality isn't up to much.
  • The same here the reception is rubbish but the phone is great! i am also having another problem with my HTC Hero and that is every now and then i can not ring out and no one can ring me it goes to answer service the phone is on all functions are working i didn't realise until i tried making a call. I then take the battery off for 2 mins and put it back on and it is working properly again. Any one having this prob as well or is it just me? i am also on Orange.
  • You would think the first thing the developers would make sure is the reception is the best they can get it and then work from there! this is like in the 80's when recption was all they had to worry about!

I have had the exact same problem, and it is really annoying! It suddenly decides it has no signal, in a place where I know it usually gets signal. If I turn it off and on again it normally finds signal. Also, sometimes it says it has reception but I try to make outgoing calls and it won't let me, or will send incoming calls straight to answerphone. Again, if I turn it off and on again it usually works, but this is annoying because it takes a long time to turn off!

One thing that could be useful is to get the 'no signal alert' app from the android market, at least then you get an alert if it's going to be rejecting incoming calls without you knowing about it. I'm not sure if it's a physical problem with the phone or the software it's on, but if it's a software issue it really ought to be sorted out...

Not the answer for everyone, but if you have Orange Broadband then the Hero is UMA compatable, so it will connect automatically to your livebox and boost your signal.
  • I had 3 Heros in 9 days. Orange sent me 2 replacements to try to fix the flaky signal problems but nothing worked so they took the last phone back and cancelled the contract. I'm back to using my faithful nokia n70 (which gets a full signal). The customer service person I spoke to at orange said that they (orange) are in talks with HTC over the build quality of the Hero. I'd advise anyone who's having problems to get on to orange straightaway. This is a known problem, whatever they tell you in the shop.
  • Well I too have the dreaded signal problem and also the dropped connection on the first or second ring into the phone. Have contacted Orange and they got me to test my sim card in my old phone, a N95, and that was displaying a similar dropped connection problem but an okay signal. They are going to replace my sim first and then, if there is no improvement, then they will replace the handset.
I did say to the assistant that I would want a hero with the updated firmware and software and she said that it would be checked to make sure that it did have those...mmmmm....knowing Orange I am not sure that will happen.
I was phoning them on someone else's iPhone that was having no problem whatsoever from exactly the same location grrrrrrrrrr.
