Keeping milk cold overnight - any ideas?

I have coffee in bed every morning courtesy of my DH
We have one of those timers on the kettle plug, and it comes on a 5.15am, my DH sets his alarm for 5.22then gets up and makes a coffee for me and a rooibos for him. Works perfectly
. He usually brings me a second cup up just before he goes out to work (he has to leave the house by 6.25 to catch the bus :eek:)
I remember my parents had a teasmaid in the 70s - bloomin' noisy thing it was!
As for stopping milk going off overnight, I suppose you could do what someone else suggested and make ice cubes of it, then you could put however many you wanted in your cup and let it thaw overnight - it won't have time to thaw AND go off!0 -

How have you managed to make the timer thing work with your kettle. Our kettle has to have the button depressed to work, but I don't think you can press the button down if it's not switched on at the plug (I might be wrong). What kettle do you have?0 -
I'd put some in a milk bottle and put it in an insulated lunchbag with one or two icepacks.A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.
Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.
one life, live it!0 -
Put the milk in a small bottle in a dish of water with a small wet cloth over it, the cloth dipping in the water.
The water evaporates and cools the bottle.
Keep it near the window or other cooler place.
Maybe start with ice cubes in the water in hot weather (remember those days :rolleyes: )0 -
Since when did milk turn from fresh to cheese overnight?!
As long as the milk is fresh, you have nothing to worry about.Profit=sanity
Turnover=vanity
Greed=inhumanity:dance:0 -

I'm not worried for health reasons, just taste. In our centrally heated office a carton of milk left out all day is unusable by 5 pm, so I imagine overnight would be similar in summer.0 -

The timer is one of those with the little things you slide in or out all round the side. It's timed to be off overnight and to come on in the morning, so when I go to bed I press the button on the kettle. Because the timer is in the off position it won't boil until the timer clicks on in the morning.0 -
......I used to own a 'Teasmaid' back in the seventies, but gave it away I we neveer had the time to use it.You could probably find one in a charity shop possibly as I should think they are maybe not even made anymore.Our one had a radio and an alarm clock on it as well.
My sister and her husband are the ONLY people I know of who got a 'Teasmaid' for a wedding present (May 1973), and then consistently used it EVERY DAY until the teapot broke about 2yrs ago. They loved it so much that they went out and bought a new one.

You could try leaving a carton of milk on the window ledge overnight. I used to do this as a student because students used to pinch other people's milk from the fridge in the halls of residence.
I promise it won't turn into cheese!0 -
why not use powdered milk instead, it tastes absolutely fine in tea or coffee0
