I would guess that if there’s anything out of the ordinary, you don’t automatically get approved by the system and your application instead goes to a human for review.

Have applied for both Nationwide and Post Office cards in last few weeks and quite surprised that both give credit limit at end of process. Nationwide even gives you the credit card number0
