  • Not sure what I would recommend for you to buy, but I would recommend that you avoid buying a Netgear DG834N. I've had mine replaced a shocking 9 times and it's still not working

I've now borrowed a Belkin router from work & it works perfectly fine wirelessly!

I have given up on Netgear now as they have all, but accused me of lying, because there is no way 9 of their routers would not work  and are telling me it must be something to do with my house and that if I want anymore replacements, they will charge me £20 shipping each time

Sorry more of a rant than advice I know, but I just wanted to let you know to avoid Netgear at all costs!

Usually most wireless routers will do an ok job but Belkins are my favourite.

If your needs are basic (ie. you dont need superfast data transfer around your house) then a £40 job should be fine. A call to your ISP could be a good idea too because they will often give them out for free in return for continuation of a contract.

Make sure when you are looking that it is suitable for your internet connection - ie Cable (such as Virgin) or ADSL (connected via your phone line), as they use different types of connection.

If you have ADSL, make sure the router has 'ADSL 2+', as that will allow faster connection speeds, if your line is capable of it.

They are right though, you don't get 9 faulty routers in a row, its got to be a problem with the setup environment, software or settings...

That rather depends on what "the job" is. There isn't a £340-odd gap between the things you are looking at because some people are idiots who will pay that much over the odds for something, there is a gap like that between them because they do different jobs.

I'd recommend something totally different for home use (currently have a netgear one myself for that as it happens) than I would for a small business and then something different again for an enterprise.
If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything

Your name is so distracting, which version is it, may I ask? Pogues?
  • I've just recently upgraded from an Asus WL-500 (7:10) to a Netgear WNDR3700. (9:10)

Nothing wrong with the Asus as such but I wanted the dual band wireless to stream movies for myself and games for my son.
