Sky just rang me back to arrange the installation date and also said the installation is free.Well worth a call!

When is your installation date? I had to register my upgrade to Sky+ HD and tracked my order today which says 6 - 10 weeks but I want it before Christmas.....

I've also got to have Sky Movies for 12 months, £16 a month on top of what I'm already paying, grrrr
  • I got my box for £29 and installation for £30. Just rang up to ask when the date is, also said my 'friend' is getting theirs for free! They said it depends on their circumstances!!!Humph not happy lol!!However I guess its better than the £149 for box and £60 installation fee!!Hopefully they do a deal on movies after Christmas!!

We were hoping to upgrade now we have a fancy new hd tv. Being a complete technophobe, i do not understand why changing from one box to another should need installing and why if they are available the don't just stick one in the post and you plug it in. Do they have to change anything on the dish.

I would not be happy to have to wait 6-10 weeks when new customers are being told they still may be in time for Xmas so the boxes are there, just not if you are an existing customer.

The Sky HD box has 2 tuners so if you are upgrading from a basic sky box, they would need to change the detector on the dish and run a second cable from the dish to the box. This would not be necessary if you already have Sky+ as that also has 2 tuners.

A colleague who upgraded a few weeks ago already had sky+ so did not strictly need any work doing but the engineer replaced the whole dish and all the cables just because they were getting old!

I phoned up on Monday to upgrade to HD and they are coming on Saturday to install the new box (They could have come this mornming if I had been at home) so I am a bit puzzles why someone else has to wait several weeks:confused:

Sky split the movies into 2 packs (1 & 2), if you take both you get the premiere movies channel as well. You can subscribe to either movie pack 1 or 2 which would be £8 a month instead of taking both which is £16. The Sky website shows examples of costs to upgrade to HD and show that you only have to take one of the movie packs

Might be due to the area they live in?? Lack of engineers. I thought I wouldnt get mine before Xmas. Getting it Monday :D

verityboo:: i did say i was a technophobe, apparently we do already have sky+ and when they installed that about 6months ago they changed something on the dish the LMP whatever that is. So i may go ahead and see if we can get an hd box. Thanks all for your help.

    That would be the LNB.
  • LNB = Low Noise Block
    Oh what's the bloody point...?
  • Hi i have been a customer of sky for many years but only have an £18.50 package. I also have sky line rental, talk and broadband. I rang up yesterday to get an upgrade to sky + either hd or ordinary was told no because I didn't pay enough each month!!! If I cancel the sky package can I still keep my sky talk and broadband?
