    You enjoy being overcharged then?

I did the research . must be the area I live in, but the 'small independent every one
raves about are MEGA expensive .

Yes the other retailers might throw in ... door strips / free delivery etc
Where Carpet Right makes you pay . Its a bit like Ryan air /easy jet

But its the Final , price that must be compared , and after a lot of shopping around will stick to carpet right.

And no , I don't think I have been ripped off.

    Hi,

If the area to be carpeted is flat (i.e not stairs) and there are no grippers or underlay to fit, a fair price for fitting is currently around £4.50-£5.00 per square metre. From your sizes, expect to pay around £45-50. Some independent fitters are willing to move the furniture for you, but be aware that it is likely they are not insured for any damages to them. Expect to pay around an extra £25-30 for moving furniture...but the fitter will almost certainly make you aware that they will not be responsible for any furniture/wall damage!

...Any more than this and I would be inclined to shop around.

Surely nobody would pay £5 a meter for anywhere outside of London?! Madness

I must have got a bargain, as he did carpet, underlay, grippers AND moved around furniture for £2 a metre !

I have rung round several carpet fitters and been quoted approx £6 a square meter which seems expensive, I expect to pay slightly more as I am having seagrass, which is more difficult than standard carpet, am in the south east but not London. Want some one who is experienced in seagrass.

  • Having a carpet fitted on friday (5.75m x 2.8m, approx) and they quoted me £59 for fitting, paid direct to the fitter(s) on the day - thats about £3.66 per square metre fitted, including underlay.

Agree with wallbash, did a bit of running round the local independants, and wasn't going to be any cheaper going to them.
More choice at CarpetRight as well.
Wha's like us - damn few, an' they're a' deid

    Hi,

    That is extrodinarily cheap...

All I will say is beware of cheap/free fitting deals. In general, if the price of fitting is less than £4.00 m/2, (or even free), it is usually subsidised by an inflatied price of the carpets and underlay.

    Hi,

At £6 per square metre I would bite their arm off! Seagrass is not as straightforward to fit as a standard woven carpet - It needs to be fully stuck to the subfloor meaning it is more time consuming, and the fitter will also have to supply an adhesive. Fitting of a fully stuck floor usually costs around 50% more than a loose laid woven carpet, so at £6 a metre you have a bargain.
