Just noticed since the reboot that AVG has become fully active again - which is strange as I did reboot after the update this morning and it didn't have any effect.

I can't see anything obvious that would conflict with AVG in your HJT log. I would just see what happens now that it has sorted itself out - should be fine.

To be honest the HijackThis log looks pretty clean.
It's possible that AVG was in mid update this morning, which could have given the errors.
Better to be sure though, so hopefully all's well :)

OP, you need to run Windows Updates, as you are still on XP SP2. SP3 was released well over a year ago now.

Thank you all - so you think it's safe to stick with AVG for the time being?

Macman - that's strange, as I do get the automatic updates fairly regularly - will get that sorted.

As you have only just updated to version 9, give it a try - it is better than previous versions (boots quicker and scans quicker) and updates reliably daily.
