Try a local wholesaler. When I ran a local food co-op we got all of our food and veg from them at reduced rates.GC Jan £318/£350, Feb £221.84/£300, Mar £200.00/£250 Apr £201.05/£200 May £199.61/£200 June £17.25/£200

we were very lucky - i went into our local morrisons to say i'd like to order 100 oranges to be picked up in a weeks time for our school nativity. the manager said we could have them for free if we tookm some headed paper with us when we collected them!!
the co-op donated bananas when we had a fairtrade day too!
it's worth asking if they'll donate all or some of them as a goodwill gesture0 -
Sorry to sound cold but its not all goodwill, companies can put charity donations against tax and they also like to be seen supporting local organsations as its good for business. That said its nice when they do it.teacherandmum wrote: »we were very lucky - i went into our local morrisons to say i'd like to order 100 oranges to be picked up in a weeks time for our school nativity. the manager said we could have them for free if we tookm some headed paper with us when we collected them!!

Ask at Tescos if they have someone who can authorise a donation to a local charity. Ours do and she is VERY helpful!!0

OK, it's that time of year again!
I need about 100 or so oranges this year-anyone seen any good deals on oranges! I have the sweets, raisins, and cocktail sticks. Candles and red ribbon are at Church-so we are all prepared for a big making session on Saturday.
Thanks for the advice above, most tof that still stands, but has any one seen any great deals in the supermarkets?

These are nice, but the ones I bought yesterday are very small.
OP why don't you ask the congregation to all donate one orange in advance of the occasion next year?0 -
Lidl have some boxes of them on offer check their website worth a try0

If you live near a big city then do go to a wholesale fruit market, you will be able to pick up a box of oranges for around £5 with various number of oranges in the carton.
What happens is there are a number of fruit importers in the UK that pack the fruit for the UK supermarkets, the fruit that they remove may have skin marking or odd shapes, they are then reboxed and sent to wholesale markets ( of which there are numerous in UK cities.)
Wholesale markets sell this product to street market sellers who can sell to the public cheaper than supermarkets do.
Also do ask for the store manager at all your local supermarkets and ask for a donation of fruit.
